1 of my grandpa's opened up 1 of the first (if not the first) 'fancy' grocery stores in Chicago back in the 60's. It was called Sunshine Market for any of you old timer Chicagoans. He had to close it though as it was ahead of the times (by about 25 yrs) & couldn't succeed.

My other grandpa turned down Adolph Rupp & UK basketball to join the Marines for WW2.

Fancy grocery store? Like tickle my fancy?

As a kid, I shopped at the Egg Store, different bakeries, and we bought most of our produce from the flea markets. Aldi's was the closest thing to a fancy store that we went to. "Boy, it sure was fancy to box all-dees groceries."

Late grandpa on my moms side received the Purple Heart in WWII, then was assigned to be Eisenhowers jeep driver.

He was also in the first group to see the aftermath at Normandy.

My late Great Uncle on my dad's side is the all time winningest thoroughbred trainer.

I'm trying to think of a store to compare it to. There's now a Mariano's Market in the same spot fwiw (is that considered "fancy"?). It wasn't like a Jewel, etc. It was "1 step above" those. (It had a piano in the corner & had more delicatessen)
