Looking to do a wordpress site.

I've never worked with WordPress, I was under the impression that was some sort of structure blogging system/environment?

Yep. Pretty much. It started as a blogging platform, but as it has progressed it has turned into a pretty robust content management system over time. You could almost even consider it a development framework in some regards. It is extremely well written and really flexible. Great platform IMO.

The majority of my time is fixing application problems. I'm a j2ee app server admin. So I'm responsible for the layer between *nix and the app. We are mainly a Websphere shop, little weblogic, and most recently a lot more open source in tomcat, jboss, etc... Biggest thing we have been doing in the last year is moving our services tier into Websphere enterprise service bus, from and old plain Jane java 1.5 tier.

So a lot of bash script writing for automation, a php script that we call with curl to audit a lot of our tasks into a MySQL DB, and php development to grab that data and report on how much time we have saved the company.

I'd like to get more php development time, but so slammed with everything else right now.

I have a special place in my heart filled with hate for Curl. We only have to use it in one instance, but for whatever reason it's just the biggest pain in the butt.

Also get off MySQL, POSTGRES FOR LYFE!

Never got into the Java / Websphere stuff...although there was one project from an old job that would have been Websphere, but we went in a different direction. PHP has really come a long way. I like it a lot. If I could find the time, I would like to get into Ruby.

Cool, I've never done any web publishing stuff before.

But I always dig well written stuff, 'specially when it's open.

I used to do all sorts of destructive things with cURL, but that's a story for another time

Like I've said before, my desktop is a rotating file of about 300 images.
