Soriano is a joke, but Garza-Barney makes a lot of sense for Detroit given their contract status and what they bring to the table.
In Mogul 2013 I could do Garza and Barney for Turner, Castellanos, Oliver, Crosby, and Albuquerque :yeah:
that wont happen.
Ya, obviously. CCS Donators can get Mogul courtesy of d3a BTW, bought us all copies!

2 questions I am going to ask you guys as you have more experience with baseball trades then I do,
1. Do the Cubs need a 3rd base prospect with Javier Baez and Josh Vitters working their way up through the system?
2. Have the Tigers blocked Castellanos? Where does he play in the next few years unless Cabrerra or Prince agree to DH?
The real issue I see with the trade with the Tigers is that the Cubs want guys who are near major league ready and Turner, who would be the center piece has been banged up.
My guess
Garza for
RHP Jacob Turner
LHP Casey Crosby
C James McCann
Turner was hurt at the beginning of the year, but has been healthy for the past couple of months. They are some interesting names in the Tigers system particularly arms.
I had heard that Turner was still working his way through the low minors.
They have about 10 to 14 pitchers in their various top 20 prospects which is intriguing.
What do we expect back for Garza?
Turner has been pitching in AAA since mid May and even made a solid start in the majors as an injury replacement this year. As far as price of Garza goes, I am not certain. There have been a lot of speculation. On the plus side he does have a year of control and is probably the third best pitcher on the market (assuming Hamels and Greinke is 1 and 2). On the negative side he has been pretty shaky the past few outings with the ERA over 4 now. I think unless we net something really good they don't trade him at the deadline. I would hope that we could get two top 100 prospects back for him since that is what we gave up to get him, but I am having a hard time figuring out this market with the info we have (Youk is worth Zach Stewart and Brent Lillibridge but Carlos Lee is worth Matt Dominguez and Rob Rasmussen).

We know from this that there is at least some interest by the Tigers in both Barney and Garza. The Tigers are currently one game under .500 and 4.5 back of the Sox in the AL Central. We can gauge desperation etc. later but the scenario is this:
Past Verlander, the Tigers need a more consistent starter. Garza can be that starter despite pitching like shit the past few starts.
Barney is a plus-defender and can be used as a throw-in to sweeten the pot. He may also be a potential offensive upgrade despite moving to the tougher league.
You send Garza and Barney to the Tigers. What do you expect in return? I think the cost control and the youth involved could be enough to snag a good- to elite-prospect back. The speculative part of it is the level of desperation involved. The Tigers are certainly within striking distance and we know that the owner okayed a ridiculous deal for Prince Fielder so the emphasis is likely on winning now as opposed to a couple years from now.
Discussion...go! :buttrock:
I initially thought this was in the linked article.
Ha! I'd love to see MLBTR do that.

My guess is that this exactly what Jed/Theo would want for Garza. And I'd be extremely happy with the trade.
The market does seem to be a mess.
I would gladly trade Garza, but I would have to be getting back at least 1 pitcher that I can pair with Samardjia in a year or right now.
Turned looks like a great option because as you said he is close.
Right now our future rotation looks like this
1.
2. Samardjia
3.
4. Travis Wood
5. Mahlon
We need 2 guys who project to be top rotation guys in a year or two out of this Garza and Dempster deal.
i think its more like this:
1:
2:
3: Samardjia
4: Wood
5:
Mahlom better not be on next year team. Sorry but he been bad SP. He only going to be on bad teams so he can eat innings. He will never be on a winning team
1.
2. Jacob Turner [Garza Trade]
3. Jeff Samardjia
4. Travis Wood
5. _______________ [Dempster Trade]
I think this is what the Cubs are trying to do and they would have a nice young rotation that is looking for an Ace, which could be the signing they make in 2014 when they want to be competitive again.
