NFL donates under $4 out of 100 to the foundation.

"Cause marketing can be especially potent when applied to sports, because consumers have emotional attachments to teams and athletes that can easily be mined to raise awareness and funds."

Sound good?...more on how the NFL plays on the emotions of fans:

http://www.sportsonearth.com/article/62332742/

"If they are not really concerned with aiding breast cancer causes, then, why do the NFL and its corporate partners* orchestrate this campaign? The cynical answer is that they are more interested in their images, and in growing their products and revenues. They are seeking to attract new consumers, usually female, and to establish a positive connection with them."

Yes, I am a cynic when it comes to the NFL.=)

At least it's only a month this year. Plenty of causes out there to raise awareness of. The NFL has done an admirable job with breast cancer, but it's odd that it seems to be their primary in season focus year after year.

Four dollars out of every 100 equals 4%.

Donating 4% of revenue is pretty significant, not to mention the level of awareness they bring.

I mean, did people think they were giving away like 20% of their revenue or some shit....?

How about this from that article:

"The 2011 A Crucial Catch campaign reached 58 million female viewers 18 and up, and 64 percent of female NFL fans could identify its key screening message."

Do you think that the NFL has made a single person aware of breast cancer?

"Hey, how come they're wearing pink?"
"It's because they're fighting breast cancer."
"Breast what?"
"Cancer. It's a disease that involves unregulated cell growth. The cells divide and grow uncontrollably, forming malignant tumors. Sometimes people get it in their breasts."
"Hot damn! I'd never heard of such a thing!"

I think you would be surprised.

I think they've made an impact in awareness, whether directly or indirectly. I don't need a lesson from you on biology. Maybe you could just focus on being less offensive.

They're not donating 4% of their revenues. The article says that the campaign raised $1.5 million last year. The league's revenues are around $8 billion a year.

I should read the article, but I am assuming they are talking about a donation rate. So if you gave $100 to the NFL's breast cancer fund, $4 would go to breast cancer, and 96 would go to adminstrators of the program, websites, programmers, lawyers, and they problably exploit young volunteer labor too.

Every non-profit has a gift % that actually makes it to the target, and you should know it before you give.
