I'm not even convinced that Usain is the best bet to run the fastest 40yd time. It's the last half of the 100 meter-races that's his strength.

True. Not a great starter.

Today marked the return of safety Derron Smith, who has been out the past three months with a sports hernia. For the most part, Smith's return was a success. He posted a 34-inch vertical jump, 10-3 broad jump and 18 reps on the bench. His times included mid 4.5s in the 40 and 4.22 in the short shuttle; not bad considering he's 10 weeks removed from sports hernia surgery. I'm told Smith looked really fluid and smooth in the drills. Despite the surgery, he came to the workout looking fit.

It's really saying something about this safety-class, when I probably wouldn't even touch my personal favorite (Derron Smith) until the 4th round..

Randy Gregory - DL - Player
NFL.com's Ian Rapoport calls the Falcons a team to "keep an eye on" for Nebraska DE/OLB Randy Gregory.
Per Rapsheet, the Falcons are "open to edgier players" under new assistant GM Scott Pioli. GM Thomas Dimitroff famously tried to build a roster of choir boys, but his personnel role has been revoked. Pioli will be calling the shots on draft weekend. The Falcons know they have to take chances as they try to restock one of the league's most talent-barren rosters. Gregory failed a drug test at February's Combine, but has No. 1 overall type of talent.

Randy Gregory - DL - Cornhuskers
Nebraska edge player Randy Gregory has private workouts with the Washington Redskins, Atlanta Falcons and Oakland Raiders over the next week, TFY Draft Insider's Tony Pauline has learned.
"In preparation, he ran his own individual combine that was videotaped, and I would assume is available for teams," Pauline added. Gregory weighed in at 243 pounds and hoisted up 26 reps on the bench. He posted a 1.56 second 10-yard split on his 4.53 seconds forty. In every testing metric, he beat his performance from the combine. Gregory, who failed a marijuana test at the Combine, has depreciated in value in recent weeks.

Marcus Mariota - QB - Ducks
CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora spoke with one NFL GM who is certain Oregon QB Marcus Mariota will be the No. 2 pick in the draft.
"I don't know to which team, but he's going second overall," the GM, who JLC notes is paying "particular attention to the Mariota market," said. We must divulge La Canfora once said Geno Smith was a lock to be a top 10 selection, but pre-draft buzz is frequently wrong. This is no different.

How Jason La Canfora remains employed is beyond me.

Tony Lippett - WR - Spartans

Detroit Free Press' Mark Snyder reports that Michigan State WR/CB Tony Lippett spoke with defensive coordinators and defensive backs coaches from the Bills, Bears, Saints, Eagles and Ravens.

The Michigan State prospect played in three games for the Spartans at the CB position, and opposing quarterbacks only targeted him eight times. Lippett defended three passes and only gave up 13 passing yards under his watch. The 6-foot-2, 191-pound Lippett has the ideal frame and fluidity for the position at the next level.

Trae Waynes - DB - Spartans

Michigan State CB Trae Waynes has worked out with the Patriots(group work out) and the Panthers (private workout), and has April visits with the Vikings, Bears, and the Jaguars, according to Detroit Free Press' Mark Snyder.

The Michigan prospect had an outstanding performance at the combine running the fastest 40 time amongst defensive backs (4.31),and followed up with a solid pro day. Waynes improved on his 4.39 combine 20-yard shuttle time, posting 4.19 time, and posted a 11.24 in the 60-yard shuttle. The 6-foot-1, 183-pound Wayne could be a top-15 selection in this year's draft. Interested teams in the back end of the first round, should be prepared to move up for his services.

Vic Beasley - DL - Tigers

Clemson EDGE Vic Beasley is working out for the Falcons on Monday, according to D. Orlando Ledbetter.

We aren't sure if Beasley makes it to pick No. 8. Dan Quinn seems to prioritize length more than his other peers in the Seattle defense tree and Beasley certainly would not match the criteria with 32.5" arms. Still, he offers ridiculous explosion and edge bend to disrupt the pocket.

I wouldn't even show up to the Vikings or Jags visits if I were him.

P.J. Williams - DB - Seminoles

FSU CB P.J. Williams "plays with a feisty flair, talks the talk then backs it up," according to NFL Media draft analyst Lance Zierlein.

The analyst ranks Williams as the No. 6 corner in the class. "Cover cornerback with the talent to play on an island, and the swagger to regroup and forget when beaten," Zierlein wrote. "Williams can cover outside or from the slot, and has potential to come in and start right away for an aggressive man-cover defense. With consistency of effort, Williams could become the best cornerback to come out of this draft." Zierlein compares Williams to Stephon Gilmore. Williams will soon visit the Ravens.

Amari Cooper - WR - Crimson Tide

Football Outsiders' Playmaker Score, a system for projecting wide receivers, ranks Alabama WR Amari Cooper as the class' best receiver.

When asked for similar historical prospects, the machine brought back Marvin Harrison and A.J. Green, nice company indeed. "Unlike many wide receiver prospects in this year's draft, Cooper did not play in the spread, and he faced some of the toughest defenses in the country," wrote FO's Nathan Forster. "Historically, Cooper probably best compares to Indianapolis Colts great Marvin Harrison as a prospect; Cooper was not quite as dominant as Harrison was at Syracuse, but the mid-'90s Big East wasn't a match for today's SEC, either." Cooper, who collected 124 receptions for 1,727 yards and 16 touchdowns last season, is ranked by Mel Kiper Jr. and Todd McShay as the best WR in the draft, and he checks in as Scouts Inc.'s No. 3 overall player.

Kevin White - WR - Mountaineers

West Virginia's Kevin White dishearteningly ranks as the No. 8 receiver in the class, in the estimation of Football Outsiders' Playmaker Score.

The organization uses the system to project wide receivers to the next level. "White's total numbers for his senior year were good: 1,447 receiving yards, 10 touchdowns," wrote FO's Nathan Forster. "However, the numbers for senior wide receivers who succeed at the NFL level are often much better than White's, especially considering that the Mountaineers threw the ball 534 times. Kendall Wright, for example, entered the draft as a senior, but had more impressive totals: 1,663 receiving yards in only 424 team passing attempts. ... White may have impressed with a 4.35 second 40-yard dash at the combine, but all else being equal, the combine 40 isn't a consistent predictor of future NFL success for receivers." The system offered Michael Floyd and Donnie Avery as similar historical prospects. The 6-foot-3, 215-pound White, a possible top-5 pick, is pegged by Rotoworld as the class' premier receiver.
