I believe the Illinois law regarding unmarked cars is "We will mark or not mark cars however we want and you can stfu"

Law or not, the concern is legitimate, as he pointed out in the video. Unmarked cars posing as cops can pull you over, and the person would not know. It's a safety concern.

Its a legit concern but Seim was being incredibly condescending towards the deputy. Seim came across as though he was the one in the position of power and was demanding things from the deputy. I thought the guy came off like a little ***** to be honest. And this is coming from someone who isn't the biggest fan of cops.

Then they try to bait you into racing them. Somehow it's not entrapment.

You as the citizen are the one in power. The police are here to protect, not to control us. Holding police accountable is a must by all citizens. Just because someone is arrested doesn't make then wrong. Many times the police are wrong and we as a society don't hold those corrupt police accountable instead we treat them like the NFL treats refs!

Simple really, if you are uncertain if the vehicle pulling you over is a real police officer, pick up your cell phone and dial 911... Ask them.

Not in my state. >shrugs< Wouldn't stop me from calling if I think the vehicle pulling me over isn't an actual police car. Or if I see something dangerous on the interstate, like yesterday I called 911 while exiting off of the interstate to report an idiot who was walking 1/2 ON the interstate and 1/2 on the shoulder, mind you this is an interstate in an urban area with a speed limit set at 65. Idiot. >shrugs<

The assumes everyone has a (working) cell phone/has signal in the area/user is fast enough to do so before a potential assault.

I have an even simpler solution, don't allow unmarked cars to make traffic stops.

Unmarked car pulls you over and someone in plains clothes steps out of the vehicle, I'm calling 911 and getting out of there. Now if a Highway Patrol officer in full garb steps out, while on an interstate, pretty fair bet, he is what he is. I would suggest in NC anyway, pull over if an unmarked car goes lights on, see if the person stepping out looks like an officer, if not, dial 911 see what they say.

We can argue the merits of "speed traps" or photo camera's at intersections or in the case of my sister's home state of Maryland, speeding traps using camera's only or unmarked police vehicles making traffic stops, but if a blue light is behind you, you best consider pulling over. I know our NCHP use unmarked cruisers on our interstates on a full time, regular basis... Honestly, they're pretty easy to spot. The license tags are all SHP-####. Plus they all have a small antenna plus a GPS round thingy up on the top roof (due to our mountains I believe) of each squad car.

Can't all that be faked by the criminal element?

There's an exemption in the distracted driving law if you are using your phone to call 911.

That is in Illinois, but I would imagine that most other states are similar.

Still how is 911 going to help? 'Sit tight and we'll send someone [in an hour or so in chicago]' by which time the fake cop has already murdered you or whatever.

You reach for that phone, cop shoots you dead and claims they thought you were reaching for a gun.

Does this "fake cop" thing happen a lot up by you?
