Has anyone ever quit their job before having something else lined up? I'm simply curious.

No, my family depends on me. If I was single or had a large reserve of cash then I may if the current job was that bad. Im "quiting " the USAF this january but I already have a job lined up.

sort of... I didn't renew a contract to teach the following fall and spent the summer looking for another job while teaching summer courses. got down to the wire. I don't recommend it if you can avoid it. I was single at the time but it was still stressful as ****.

I hear ya. I'm single and childless with a few bucks on reserve so it's an option if worst comes to worst.

I graduated last year and accepted a job here with a really good company, but it's a terrible fit for me and my skill set.

right, like sere said, the reserve is key but it sucks to think about burning through it. I didn't end up having to but it caused plenty of agita

Yeppppp. I only did it because I literally could not sleep at night because I felt so stressed and afraid to go back in the morning.

Yes I have. Several times. I go through it every couple of years when I just really need a long break. Work out, do some traveling. If you save carefully and don't live outside your means when working, you can do it also (if you have kids, that's harder b/c they're so damn expensive).

I just don't think life was meant to be spent in a damn cubicle.

I've always had another job lined up. It's too stressful for me to not know when my next paycheck is coming.

The closest I've ever come to leaving a job without another lined up was last year. I started the process a few months the in advance, a couple friends of mine told me the hiring process in painfully long and aggravating. I ended up getting fired because I had a bad attitude and was just fucking over that career. I still needed a month or so after that to finally get the job. Even though I knew I was qualified and was 98% sure I would get hired I was still a train wreck until I got the official offer.

My advice would be to suck it up until you get another job. Unless you really have enough saved to be self sufficient for a few months at least

Yes, when I had no obligations and money on the back burner. Careful though, finding a job isn't anywhere near easy anymore. People don't want to hire anyone without experience, and they don't want to hire anyone with experience because they're more expensive.

I wouldn't ever leave a job without having one lined up first. It's just not smart... unless there are really substantial reasons to do so. And I wouldn't' consider stress to be one of those reasons.

Find what you love doing and start a business. Working for yourself has it's up and downs but if it goes bad it's on you or you can blame Obama.

Just get an I between job in the service industry. Fast cash, easy way to meet chics. Keeps you busy.
