It's done. After a lot of thought and a heavy heart, I informed my boss of my resignation. He was bummed and stated multiple times that he'd be more than willing to help with anything I need as far as references or even returning at a later date. I'm excited for new opportunities and a job I don't despise every minute of.

I'm starting to think I need to work out a couple of jobs that don't pay quite as much as mine and just get some experience in other fields. I lose sleep over this crap way too much. It's seriously effecting my health as well. Good luck to you.

Mostly the people I work for. It's just commercial printing, which I enjoy. But it's a family owned business, four family members work here and make up all the upper management. It's like walking on egg shells every day trying not to get in the middle of family drama. They all hate each other for the most part but we have to listen to them, even when they tell us conflicting things to do. It sucks brother. I've sent resumes to every company hiring in a three county radius but all I've ever done is commercial printing.

Ok. I'm done crying. :crying: well...maybe not.

Monk, hope you find something you enjoy.

I worked in technical and billing support which meant a phone call every 7 seconds. I just got burned out. I stuck around because I worked for a really, really good company (they probably made your phone...), but didn't see a future there. It was affecting my mood and overall mental well-being.

I was in a pretty similar situation at a previous employer. There were 3 brothers and a dad (who was borderline senile). They all thought they were in charge, so it was constant conflict all the time. The best part was I was supposed to be in charge...so one would come and tell me to "ignore my dad, just do this", then the dad would come and get on my case because "he was the one with the name on the paperwork". Shit like that, all the time.

I had a job approved by dad, son looked at it as well and was ok, it needed to be finished that day so I ran it. The next day I get called in to mom's (CEO) office after lunch and get blasted for running it without her approval. So piss off I raised my voice and told her I did everything I was supposed to because she wasn't here to approve it and it had to be ran. (I was running a machine in place of her son because he's an idiot and only has a job because they employ him. Seriously, he's been fired here multiple times by dad but rehired by mom after working less than a week somewhere else and getting fired.) Needless to say I got sent out of the office and later, dad comes up to me and blasts me for telling her he approved the job. Their other son is the "Sales Manager" because he figured out medical school was hard. He sits in the office and yells at everyone if he catches them talking and not working. Needless to say, I think my job is how I got the ulcer.

Damn dude. That sucks. All I can say is you need to GTFO of that environment...sounds incredibly toxic, but you already know that. Good luck with your search.

It would be cool if it made that loud ringing sound as it hit the desk.

That’s a great idea but it’s much easier said than done. I’ve actually thought about it before but I just can’t afford the risk. I need the stability of my 9-5 job.

I’ve even had a few ideas about different businesses. Then I start looking into them, find out someone else already tried it in my town and failed miserably.

Honestly, I would love to own a campground. But that requires a whole lot more money than I could ever come up with. I’m seeing the owners of the one I stay out now struggle to keep the place running simply because they can’t afford it.
I'm very lucky that my wife has a job that pays well and provides insurance.

I hear it leaves you plenty of time for engrossing hobbies of the questionably legal sort :D

As a person who has burned bridges in the past, and not only burned them but fucking vaporized them, I can say with confidence it is best to have an end game in sight. I got lucky and ended up with a great job (eventually) and a chance now to own a piece of the company. In other words, got lucky in spite of myself.

When I moved to the town I'm in from the town I did so with the promise of a job that fell through. That was freaking stressful. Burned through savings quick.

is time off for grad school considered a mark against you? I worked during my time there but try to keep my resume to one page

If it's grad school for "how to be more snarky", then yes.
