So this begs the question. Who are the most influential punk bands of all time? If the Ramones aren't in the top 5 then there is a real shitty problem. Hell if they aren't in the top 3 then we mine as well burn the shit down and start over. I know these stupid ranking bands shit is subjective and really fucking stupid to begin with..but for shits and giggles who are the most influential? Hell some people think The Who were the actual roots of punk for varying reasons.

Blackflag?

Sex Pistols?

Ramones?

Clash?

Dickies?

Misfits?

Dead Kennedys?

Green Day?

Blink 182?

Barbra Streisand?

Genre changer that was not so EMO until they got popular. Dookie is a freaking awesome album of burning punk genre bending love.

I hate Green Day but Biscuit is right they did make a mark on the genre for good and bad. At the very least what Green Day did was introduce another generation to punk music. From there most ended up discovering the greats like the Ramones and the Clash etc etc. And Dookie was okay for it's time but it got overplayed so much that even 20 seconds of the album became punishment to listen to. That's not Green Days fault really. The worst part of Green Day were the pop punk bands that spawned from their popularity. Horrible shit.

I will reluctantly admit I liked Brain Stew for some fucking reason. Only Green day song I actually ever could tolerate. But Green Day even wrecked it when they put it together with Jaded for that video. Jaded sucks balls and wrecked Brain Stew.

Question

Does Motorhead belong in the genre of punk? Or are they left only to be in the metal genre? I would actually put them in both and they go on my list of influential punk bands. Lemmy is kind of punk ya'all!!

Good question. Didn't think about him as punk, but he had the style with the cross over with metal. Trying to think of bands that followed that direction and made it.

Who the **** would want to be known as the group that started the 80's hair metal craze? Worst fucking genre in all of music history. Stratovarius should be ashamed of themselves.

Bad Religion, Rancid and Pennywise for sure huge players in the punk scene!! NOFX also but on a personal level shockingly i was never a big NOFX fan but they were probably the biggest thing in the punk circle at their time where I was growing up or hanging out or what ever I was doing at that time. I just didn't like Fat Mikes voice Truth be told I have never been that big of a fan of California based punk...ALTHOUGH...despite their label as a thrash band..Suicidal Tendencies first studio album was California punk through and through and actually a really fucking great as a punk album. Might go as far as to say it is the most under-rated punk album of all time actually and a forgotten album from the punk world because they changed their style to a more metal thrash crossover sound.
