Saw the premiere of Counterpart on starz last night. Felt pretty underwhelming, don't think I'll stick around.

Also caught The Alienist premiere on TNT tonight. It's right up my alley; I'm a sucker for crime/mystery shows.

If we're talking Nolan films, then why not go back to his first full-length? Following was pretty fucking good. It was a foray into Balzacian non-linear (split timeline) story telling. This was refined in Memento in that the latter is much easier to grasp since it's simply scenes in retrograde, rather than a completely broken timeline as in Following. The viewer has to piece together where each scene fits into the story by picking up visual -- bruises from a fight, hair style changes, and the like -- and narrative clues. It's definitely not an easy watch, which turns off a lot of people that aren't really into working for their viewing edification; but it's worth it if you're into more experimental film-making.

FTR I don't hate Interstellar.... but I do hate some of the writing.

There are plenty of movies/shows I enjoy, but I still hate some of the story/writing.

The Dark Knight was an average film with 1 amazing performance by Ledger, that doesn't make it a great film though. I thought Batman Begins was the best of the three, and truly the only Batman film out of the bunch.

I wouldn't say it was great but it was a very good film IMO. I preferred the character arc of Dent to that of Batman to be quite honest. Ledger gave a good performance but I find it slightly overrated due to his death.

For like a month I watched the 1st ten or so minutes of Following every night on YouTube.

I thought this was interesting

My favorite teams
  1. Chicago Bulls
Watched Eddie and the Cruisers for the first time.

For a one time watch, I'm satisfied. Actually, pleasantly surprised after all the years of bad reviews and owning the soundtrack for decades. The movie is nothing original, no real surprises. Just a straight up movie trying to relay the sense of that early rock and roll comeback scene in the 80s. Has a lot of mistakes, but it's a good, bad movie.

5.75/10 overall, but I give it a worthwhile one-time watch rating. (IMDB has a 6.9, that HAS to be a cult dominated rating.)

Now my real dilemma is should I watch the sequel? Eddie Lives (6.2 on IMDB)
I'm game for another bad movie along these lines (takes itself seriously, doesn't veer too much into fantasy). It can either ruin the meager impression I have on the first movie, or going semi-soon as a back-to-back with Eddie 2 is the only way Eddie 2 is enjoyable.

Frailty 8.7/10. Only thing that holds this under 9 is that most of the movie is pretty slow. But the last 20 minutes is fantastic and worth it.

Get Out 8.5/10. Interesting concept and well-done/fleshed out. I actually thought it was going to be a little funnier, but it definitely has that "Key and Peele" touch, but it's more infused within a Stephen King-like story.

The M. Night twist at the end made it go from a classic to and decent movie. Why do movies struggle so mightily with the endings?

I love that flick. If Bill spouted a "game over, man" it would have been perfect.

Thor Ragnarok - 7.5/10

I enjoyed it.... but it was heavy on the troll humor.

The whole movie felt like the original script was edited so it would be funny from start to end.

I like comic relief, but this movie felt like comedy with action relief.

Still a fun movie overall.

Side note... did they rip off the battle music thing from DC movies like Batman vs Superman and Wonderwoman? It sounded exactly like it.

Spiderman Homecoming 3/5

I liked it that they had some back story to a scene or two from previous movies. I liked that they had Vulture in it. Way too much comedy and unecessary swearing that did nothing to move the film along.

Lol you should watch The Magicians on Syfy.... the amount of foul language is off the charts.

They even write the F word into the show but the audio of them saying it has to be cut.... they don't bleep it...

Seems odd to write the F word into a show knowing it airs on regular cable.... it is like when they play The Departed on cable TV... why bother?

I'd give a 1.5/5 but your complaints are the same ones I had, awful movie.

Look I get it. I am the oddball and have a higher sensitivity to it. Gangster movie, lots of swearing. Kids action movie? Really? Why not have a random naked woman in every scene too?

I actually wasn't criticizing you... I was pointing out another instance of overuse of foul language where it doesn't seem it belongs IMO.

As for Spider-Man Homecoming... I will point out that the Marvel series movies are targeting more of an adult audience than a kids audience, but I would agree they are probably smarter to tune it with the assumption kids will be watching/listening.

Super Hero stuff has become a bit of a grey area... they want that 18-45 money, but at the core kids will still want to see Super Hero movies.
