I would say one has to remember there are different types of films. The question is how well they did that type of film.HBO has been showing the original Superman films lately I assume because of the doc. I ended up watching them as well. i vaguely remember seeing them as a kid. It was more my brothers thing. They’re decent. I don’t hold anything against films for being limited because of the time period they were made in. So it’s nothing like that.
But 10/10? Seriously? If Superman is a 10 then what is something like Citizen Kane? I can’t in good conscience put those two films in the same category.
I guess what I’m saying is I need you to be better. Stop willy nilly throwing around 10’s all generously and shit. Superman is a fine film. It’s not a 10/10 though. Superman and The Godfather don’t belong in the same category. It’s great for what it is, but it’s a popcorn superhero movie.
Citizen Kane is one of a favs. I think it's certainly one of the best dramas.
Drama, action, sci-fi, horror, fantasy, comedy, romance films have commonalities, but they have different goals in pleasing the audience.
Maybe you're bringing in the concept of comparative importance/significance? Superman78 and Kane could both tell their respective stories through the film media very well, but some critics just won't give a "comic book" movie high regard because of their 'critic status'. High praise is left for "serious films".
