Losing 9 of the last 11 and having a 3 game lead and blowing it is not worthy of a pass to the post season. Ventura needed guys to step up and they looked gassed, which even though they are and have been through nagging injuries, you'd think the veterans would have risen to the occasion, and someone take the role of clubhouse leadership. Felt like there was no sense of urgency and a que sera, sera attitude instead of going for the jugular with a 3 game lead. Hopefully Robin will learn from this, being his first year and all and not allow/tolerate another melt down on the future teams in a pennant race again.

The season is 162 games long, thats a lot. September is usually the month to see if teams (mainly the ones still fighting for a playoff spot) are built for it and can handle that grind. As far as leadership goes, you got guys like Konerko and Pierzynski that should take over that role. It sucks to be in 1st place for a good portion of the season only to lose it with very few games remaining. Oh well, this just shows that it's not about how you start but how you finish.

You are completely right except for the fact that you blame Konerko and Pierzynski for not being leaders. There have been great leaders who played for shitty teams. I mean look at a guy like Jim Thome, he is one of the best leaders and guys in the game, yet he doesn't have a ring, are you going to blame him? No. It's everyone else's job to step up, Konerko and Pierzynski can't hit for the young, and inexperienced guys. But other than that you are spot on about September.
