So I know there were a few of you trying to lose wieght and in general just get healthier. I hope I can serve as some form of inspiration.

I've lost 25lbs since december. My biggest point is, i am not really dieting, allah willing I will remain eating this way till I croak (maybe not exactly like this but similarly healthy, i just don't cook).

5 days a week

breakfast - a nature valley bar, these are very good and only around 200 calories and they offer a big variety.

lunch - lean cuisine meal (replace with healthy choice, lean pocket, smart ones whatever) on of these brands is always on sale when I go grocery shopping) I just hate cooking, i am sure you could replace this with healthy cooking of your own, but for me having the pre made dinners helps with portion control, as that more often than not is peoples biggest problem, healthy choices are just that, but become less effective or not at all when you eat giant portions. By far lean cuisine has the best tasting options, and its honestly cheaper than going through those mail order diet programs. I probably only spend 50 bucks a week on food, if that.

Dinner - see lunch.

Snacks - usually keep around boxes of the low fat low cal popcorn option orvilles smart pop etc. only 200 calories for an entire bag, so you can milk a bag of that during the evening. I never really get snack attacks during the day, in fact oddly, I dont know what it is I can go all day without thinking about food, its from about 6pm-10pm that for some reason I like constantly desire to be eating something.

id say each day monday-friday I maybe consume anywhere between 800-1200 calories a day, i try to at least hit 1000 if im concious of it, normally I should but some of the meals are just ridiculously low in calories.

each lean cuisine meal will at MAX reach 400 calories, the majority are in the 2-350 range.

2 days a week

Now here is one helper to staying on track. I didn't give up beer and going out to eat. I just gave it up during the week. if someone orders a pizza while boozin it up, or wants to go out to eat, i am totally down for that. So Saturday and sunday or friday and saturday (I only alot myself 2 days, whichever they happen to fall on).

The only thing I slack off on is working out. I seem to lack motivation without a drill sergeant barking at me. This is one of the reasons i continue my search for my perfect K-9 companion, as it will get me out of the house because I have no choice but to walk it. I mean if i think about it, I'll bust out couple push up /situp pyramids, but im hardly consistent. I annoy myself because I have an encyclopedia of military fitness in my brain, but dont use it.

But so far i am happy with the change and accustomed to it. The key here is to never be satisfied with yourself, thats how I ended up gaining weight after the Army. I had a long term girlfriend, i didnt need to be in shape anymore, it just was not a priority, now I intend to keep it a priority and not just for more vain reasons, but My grandfather(age 50) and mother(at age 44, im not far off at 29) both had open heart surgery, i would prefer not having my ribcage cleaved in half to fix something I may have been able to prevent, although it could simply be genetics, neither my mom or grandpa are pictures of someone you would expect to have heart attacks, my grandfather was never overweight and swam at the Y and rode his bike every day since he was in his 20's.

That's great.

I've gone from 256# to 226# over the last year on a very similar plan, although I'm consuming more calories than that, typically 1800-2000 per day. I'm hoping to break 200# barrier.

Congrats on the weight lose. I highlighted the part I have a question about. Do you work out at all? And if so, what are you doing? Although I am not woefuly out of shape, i have definetly slacked off alot in the last 9-10 months, as I got the attitude, i am retiring **** worrying about how I look in uniform, as long as it fits. I need something to get me going, and if there is something I can do without killing myself, I am all for it. Since I broke my ankle 5 years ago, I have not been able to do any serious running (I used to do between 3-7 miles daily) so that is out.

When I joined the Army I weighed 189lbs at 6'0. When i got out of basic training I weighed 215(I packed on the muscle like a mother in basic). At the very least I would like to be back at that wieght, although i am damn sure now, the difference between 189lbs and 215lbs isnt "all muscle". I was at 260 when i started I am 245 now.

I mean Im not completely woefully in active, but as in a regime of working out, not really. About twice a week if I think about I will do a set of pushup/situp pyramids, they had us do those in the army all the time. basically you pick a number (in the army it was generally 50) I started off at 20 and it still murders me. do 20 pushups, do 20 situps, do 15 pushups do 15 situps, do 10 pushups do 10 situps, then 5. I generally cant finish the pushups, its sad, lol.

When i was working downtown, i walked 2 miles a day to and from union station. Thats why I'm looking for an active dog to adopt, one that needs to be walked or ran frequently. that is what i need to do though is run. Nothin gets the heart movin like running.

I'm not a total slug, but my activity level has not changed. I have a 3 acre yard, and maintaining that in Texas is a year round job and since I'm too cheap to pay someone to do it, it keeps me busy. I walk or ride a bike a few times a week as well. That's about it.

Have you thought about adopting one of those retired greyhounds? I know they are always trying to find home for them. They would be good running partners,

When I joined the Navy, I weighed about 165 and I was 5'10." That didnt change that much through bootcamp, as I was in pretty good shape (was playing semi-pro soccer prior to enlisting). It was going through Sub School, Electronics Rate Training and then A and C schools, that I got up to 200 (18 months in Groton CT will do that to any man or woman). That started my weight roller coaster ride, I bounced between 180 to 210 over the next 20 years. Wan't to get back to about 180, not really sure where i hit the scale at right now.

Its easy to get complacent when you get out of the military. No one is holding you accountable for your fitness, save yourself. Try not to let yourself slide too much and you should do fine.

It wasnt only that for me, I used to be into it, and had a ravenous appetite while I was in the army. When I got out, I ate like I was still running and working out every day for about 4 years, If i simply would have reigned in my eating habits, i probably wouldnt have gained weight. I literally gained roughly 10 lbs a year since 2007, and that sucks because its hard to notice a 10 lb gain over the course of a year, its hard to notice the waistband getting tighter its so gradual you just think thats how they always fit, until you have to get new friggin pants, weight loss on the otherhand is more noticeable as you generally lose weight faster than gaining it.

Tim, I've got the perfect workout for you. Buy a nice pair of ice hockey skates and go to one of the several places you have close to you a few times a week. Even if you just skate in a big circle for 30 minutes at a casual pace, it will improve your ability and help burn about 500-1000 calories depending on speed, duration, etc. You may even get bold enough to find a novice men's league for one night a week games. You have the time, you are in the right location, go have fun, lose weight quicker. Thank me later!

What i want to do this summer is join some sort of organized inline league. Im "ok" on ice skates, I can skate and what not, but im like 10 times better playing hockey on inlines, I just dusted off my tried and true missions the other day, they are fucking indestructible, Ive had them since 2001, wheels are the only thing ive had to replace.

i just took a picture of them for posterity:

I also noticed a picture of me laying on that dresser there in top douchebag form when I was 19. Sleeveless shirt motherfuckers, awesome.
