ok, let's see.
Minivan involved..this minivan is the problem that killed Benson and his passenger..passenger is most likely a woman.
minivan drivers can't drive for shit worth's and those people are always fucking angry or something.

reports stated a “vehicle and person on fire,”

JEEZ..this is really fucking sad..one of the riders was on fire. SO, most likely the minivan driver didn't even see Benson on his bike and runs them over with a hard collision and i doubt the minivan was pulling out of a driveway. Just go look up on how motorcycles catches onto fire. I believe Benson probably did burn to death guys.

Doubtful on the bolded.
If he hit the van broadside... which it sounds like he did... he died before he felt a damn thing.
Not only did he die, his woman behind him also died... and he would have been a cushion between her and the van.

Beyond that- if you hit something head on hard enough to rupture and ignite your fuel tank... fire is the least of your worries.
It is just a head start on your cremation.

The speed limit there is 50-55. The van pulled out of a residential area to make a left (crossing Bensons path). Hitting a van broadside at that speed on a bike does not make for a good outcome. Its a sketchy road and things like this are common, and its very plausible the driver didn't see the bike. He likely had ZERO chance of avoiding that van.

Reports state the van caught on fire.

The minivan was turning left off Mount Bonnell Rd on 2222. This is a dangerous area for sure, one I've been through plenty of times. But with the van making a left, it seems like that would be less dangerous because the biker would have more time to see the van and make an adjustment. Not to say this was Benson's fault by any means.

I think it's natural to try and look for blame, because humans are hardwired towards justice. But sometimes an accident is just an accident.
No it's usually because somebody isn't paying attention. Too many drivers are busy fucking around. Driving or riding is serious business.

We have a poster with first hand experience of the road in question, who has told us that it's an area particularly susceptible to accidents due to the corners and lack of visibility. It's entirely possible for an accident to occur in such a place without either party driving recklessly.

My question as well. Texas does NOT have a helmet law. When I was young and stupid I used to ride without a helmet. Now that I am old and stupid I at least put my helmet on before riding. Wouldn't be caught dead without it.

I'm gonna guess that @Urblock's wife got in an accident because someone was "****ing around" so now 90% of accidents can be attributed to that.

An old biker friend of mine once told me that when it comes to motorcycle accidents at a higher speed, the only difference a helmet makes is whether the casket is open or closed at the funeral.
Not sure I agree with that. Especially with a Tbone style accident. When you get launched over the top of a vehicle there is a pretty good chance you are going to land on your head. The time I had to lay mine down to avoid being Tboned I distinctly remember the back of my helmet slamming into the roadway. Saved me from a concussion or possibly splitting my skull open.

But I used to think exactly like your friend so I can understand his argument. Just can't agree with it.

wouldn't matter, we don't know what kind of motorcycle CB has. I do picture that CB would most likely have a Harley Davidson. Do you know what riding at 55mph feels like? I know i do, I just now came back from a ride on us30 @ 60mph.

It was a crotch rocket, he posted a photo of it a few hours before the accident.

You must be held accountable, I drive for a living...People does stupid shit daily and often when on the road. I could start with how many people i see looking/texting on their phones, women has this by a long mile, guys on the other hand have no fucking patience and I could crush people with my rig, if I was to be any more care-less.

Now we are going to learn it was brand new and this was his first ride.

Sometimes I can't help it, Because I'll have sunglasses on and be thinking for a while that I'm wearing a helmet. I just get on and go.

Not a good idea riding double for a first time out or First Night out with a new bike.

Yeah that's the part that really bothers me. He posted a pic of the bike and said "my Saturday night"

I agree with that, particularly the texting. Drives me nuts when I see a car swerving in front of me. When I pass them it's 99% a female under 35 on her cellphone. I almost want to take my own phone out and take a picture of her to send to the cops and her insurance company, but obviously that would kind of defeat the whole point.

I'm just saying it's possible for accidents to happen without that, especially on a road like this one. We naturally want to look for fault, but this may have been a case where neither party was doing anything egregious, shit just happens.
