.291 with 12 HR, 18 2B, and an .817 OPS halfway through his first season at AAA... not exactly what many would call "sucking". Especially when he's been extremely hot the past month or so. Hell, the guy has actually dropped his K-rate to around 80 for a full season the past two years. Developing well as a defensive 3B.

Almost looks like he's putting it together...

Vitters has looked good but let's keep in mind the PCL is a fucking bandbox hitters league.

Five years in though, you would expect him to be ready for the bigs

5 years in...and he's only 22 years old playing in AAA. That's not horrible given the fact that the average age for High-A ball is 22-23 years old. (at least the FSL)

Yeah Vitters isn't the "super spect" that guys like Trout or Harper are but that doesn't mean he still won't possibly be very good as a pro. He's just a kid who took more time to develop and needs to time to adjust at each level. In comparison, if Soler(who is currently 20) spends 2 seasons in the minors before being called up he'd be making his MLB debut around the same time Vitters does age wise(22-23). This is assuming Vitters debuts this season.

You really think he will this year? I mean I guess I could see a September callup once Iowa is done, but it seems like they are in no rush with Vitters.

This. He'll get his cup of coffee this season at the very least. Likely start 2013 back down at AAA, get to his 500 AB's there then get the call up before the ASB next season at 23. (He turns 24 in August)

They might as well. I think he's already on the 40-man and it's not like Iowa's going to the playoffs either

That's probably spot on... unless he impresses like mad during a Sept callup, winter ball, and ST. 3B is a serious hole... so I wouldn't doubt the FO would want to find a plug ASAP. But, I also think it'll take HUGE performances between now and the first 2-3 weeks of camp to even give him a sho at making the roster out of ST next year.

True enough. However, to be on a pace of 25 HR in that league isn't something to scoff at. Plus, the big development I see is him not striking out at a 180 K pace as he was just 2-3 years ago. His defense needs work... his pitch selection needs work... and his patience needs work. Right now, I'd say he's a 3B version of Jeff Francoeur. Won't walk, not devastatingly bad K numbers, put up mediocre-average BA with low OBP... hit the occasional HR and drive in runs when it matters. If he learns to work a count, it'll help with his BA and his ability to take walks. Might even boost his HR ability too by waiting for better pitches to drive.

Bleacher Report has a long article about why Rizzo sucks, wonder if Capt. Serious wrote it.

There are reasons for concern, and San Deigo did trade him pretty easily once they got Alonso. I am hoping for the best, but he isn't a lock to be great or even good.
