They need a D-man or a 1st/2nd line forward.

via @incarceratedbob on twitter

i know alot of you dont know who this is, but I just found out about him recently

this guy puts out legit breaking news and has already reported numerous things (Pujols to Angels, Wilson to Angels, Avery being waived by NYR) DAYS before other outlets

I know some of those deals are kinda no-brainers, but he seems to have legit sources and know his shit

check him out on twitter

As much as I would love Bobby Ryan on our team, it won't happen. Center and D is our main need at the moment and we'd have to give up way too much to get Ryan.

if you have a chance to obtain Ryan, you move kane to center without a question.

no brainer

While it would be an awesome addition, it is dependent on the cost. IMO the #1 priority is a top 4 Dman which can allow you to slide #4 back. Tim Gleason would help out the Hawks more since it allows you to put McDonnell in the skybox. Plus, he is tough guy who is among the league-leader in d-man hits.

What is enticing about getting Ryan is the physicality coupled with the skill that he would bring. Dream about a Toews, Sharp, Ryan line backed up by a Kane, Hossa, Bruno line followed by our shutdown line 3 and a Mayer, Carcillo, whoever is left checking line. (I figure Stahlberg would be traded.)That has to rival the lines the Cup team had and would make the Hawks one of the favorites. Actually, as I think about his more I really like it but I wonder what you'd have to give up.

Man would this team be awesome with Bobby Ryan, but he doesn't really fill the needs.

What would you be willing to give up? Do you think it would be enough?

I'd say maybe Stalberg and Morin or something like that. One guy that's up right now and one almost ready prospect.

Maybe Kruger and Hayes. Something like that.

Not sure if the Ducks would go for that though.

I'm not sure if I would like the return they would want for Ryan. I would love for him to be on the Hawks but I guess it depends on what we have to give up.

Wouldn't getting another winger that could play on the top 2 lines address the center issue by freeing Kane to be the second line center?

Dabynsky is right -- Kane has performed at Center... the question becomes -is Sharp a LW? I think he is ( a right handed LW)- whereas Ryan is listed as a righty right wing.

The defense isn't all that broken; if deemed necessary there should be one available at the trading deadline -but if you can add a significant piece to the puzzle (or what you anticipate to be one) -youdo it earlier than the deadline.

If true, it would work on the Hawks.

Ryan has shown he can play LW. He does it in Anaheim and did it for team USA in the Olympics. I am also pretty sure he was on Kane's line in that Olympic run

Sharp and Kane at center - looking at this from a forward play perspective - this is actually a pretty good thing for the Hawks even in the purely tactical sense.

What I mean by this, is that Kane has shown that he is able to win draws at the NHL level. Ok, so sure, both Kane and Toews are both lefties; Sharp is a righty. Now you could play them all on one line, but with the added flexibility of Kane being able to play (and play pretty well at center -or even just take draws) -what you now have is a situation where you are going to have both a lefty and a righty able to take draws while on the same line. It doesn't really matter if Kane is paired with Sharp -who is the center, same as if Sharp is paired with Toews - although I think it seemed like the Sharp/Toews without Kane didn't function so well...

Point being there - when in the offensive zone, you have the flexibility to be able to pick a lefty or righty (on the same line) to draw one back towards either the point or the slot -- coach's choice. It is sort of like having a guy who can pitch righty and lefty at the same time -- not all that common and a nice advantage to have.

I'd put Sharp at center before Kane.

I prefer Sharp on the wing where he is scoring goals. Kane is really good at center.

Sharp and Kane both played wing last year and Sharp scored more goals. I want Sharp on the wing and Kane at center.

I would make the first line Stalberg-Toews-Sharp and the second line Ryan-Kane-Hossa. That is, if the Hawks get Ryan. I'm still not believing this rumor until it happens.
