I prefer Sharp on the wing where he is scoring goals. Kane is really good at center.
Sharp and Kane both played wing last year and Sharp scored more goals. I want Sharp on the wing and Kane at center.
I would make the first line Stalberg-Toews-Sharp and the second line Ryan-Kane-Hossa. That is, if the Hawks get Ryan. I'm still not believing this rumor until it happens.
However, from a strictly coaching standpoint, if a player is chalking up points then someone on the team is scoring the goals. It is not relevant as to whom that player might be.
Hockey being a team game, technically you don't even need to be credited with an assist to be effective on offense - or in otherwords- you make the opposition worry about you- they lose their focus - bang -the puck is over the goal line. Doesn't matter really, all it matters is in the sense of team.
Sharp, happens to produce at a given clip consistently over the past few years - it doesn't really matter where.
That plus as a forward, technically you aren't playing rod hockey- you have your defensive assignments (in a lot of cases it is zone defense for the wingers), but the deal is there, based upon the pace of the game you have to cover up what might be missing - like say if the defencemen went on in deep -someone --aka a forward has to cover the point until the d-man gets back on point....
which sounds irrellevant- but what I am trying to say is that the defensive duties are dictated by the situations at any given moment... and in ice hockey terms that can (and often does) equal a nano-second -even in rec leagues. (Obviously it is that much more full on the further up the scale you go).
