O.K. .....Third and goal on the One yard line........Who gets the Ball?
* Does Matt have the power to punch it in?!
*Carey does have the ability to "worm" his way for an extra yard or two after contact.....?!
*Do we need a "Thumper".....(a LeGarrette Blount)....?
i think a "power" back is a distinct possibility. i think the ideal situation for the bears is to have forte as the lead back but with his snaps cut. people can pretend he's not quickly approaching the running back cliff but that's all it is. pretend. 27 is statistically speaking the peak year for running backs, and the decline is dramatic after that. only a very small number of backs remain productive past the age of 30.
i'd love to see the bears do something similar to the patriots, where you can adapt on a weekly basis what you're doing on offense. the bears had no ability last year to be a power run team, even if they had wanted to.
so you maximize what's left in forte's tank by giving him help. cut him down to around 60-65% of the snaps. carey is a good receiver so he can pick up some of that slack, and add a power back to the mix. that's another thing the bears struggle with-closing teams out with the run game. when they tried to run late in games with leads, they were not effective at all.
ideally you get a guy who could potentially be a starter after forte's gone as well. at least you get a guy who can be part of a rotation with carey.
