Great info WC and I think it is possible that all of the above do get cut. I think Earl will remain though but could be up in the air. The main thing is we still have a lot of wiggle room for this off season.

If the Bears think that Marquess Wilson will be the #3 next year I think Bennett gets cut and replaced with a player making far less.

2.45 million is a lot for a back up.

Thanks. I was just going to take a crack at that, but if I did, I would not have done as perfect of a job as you did.

Let's say you get 7 positions filled thru draft/UFA that will leave you with 16 positions with about 20 to 22 million to play with

edit:

you can sign another 3 minimum vet status that will leave you 13 positions with about 17.5 to 20 million left over for 13 positions.

It really is not a lot simply because of the number of positions we need to fill.

I am expecting 2 things,

1. A lot of 1 year deals like we had last season (Williams, Anderson, Slauson etc)

2. Trade down in the draft to get 2-3 more picks and spending them on defense. Emery has talked about t every year, but now the need seems to be there for as many top 100 defensive talents as we can get.

I agree with how they will get there......I only see maybe one or two "impact FAs signed and it will most likely come on the D line.

If there is any year we are going to trade down, this would be the year but I only think Emery trades down if we get great value in a trade. Last year, the value was very low.

If this is true, which I am guessing it is coming from Jahns, I don't understand why they structured Jay's deal this way.

Simple, it enables to sign players like Brandon and Jeffery in the future and still having money to spend over the next few years. Brilliant by Stein.

There's not a lot of money after mediocre Cutler's massive contract? You don't say...
