Slightly more wiggle room, and yes it's huge, but haven't we already known this for a bit now and we still seem screwed?

It's about 840k more than we thought it would be. The number being thrown around was $2 million. That extra 840k is helpful.

Yeah, the speculation has been here for a while, hence all the threads about the cap raise being eaten by Toews' bonus. What I was more asking is what phranchk address. How much does this extra 840 actually help. Is it going to be enough to maybe save a player?

Actually it is still $2.84 M more then this past Stanley Cup Championship Season!

(Just had to do it)

Bottom line, it give the team alot more options and until recently they did not know it was going to be for sure.

I was told that only 1.3 mil was extra from Toews for winning the Con Smyth and that ANY bonus PK received was already figured into the Cap.

So therefor we have an extra 1.5 Mil. Instead of having less with the Cap not moving. The ONLY reason the Cap was not fixed this year is the players voted Yes to the Kicker.

I mean this as a serious question: Why wouldn't the players vote to raise the cap?

I don't know if it gives them ALOT more options, but it certainly allows for some flexibility that wasn't going to be there had the NHLPA voted NO. Had they voted NO you would have most definitely seen two of Versteeg, Sharp and Buff gone.

Now with the options they might have only ONE of those players could be a possibility.

either way this team will compete for the Cup again next year. I'm confident.

You'll have to read about the vote. Honestly I don't know how to answer that.

Because it's complicated, or because there isn't a real answer?

It's what they call a 5% up lift, or Kicker. I just don't know how to explain it. You can look it up in the NHLPA. If that will do any good.

Simple answer, because they have to pay more in escrow.

As I remember it -- and it's been a few years since I've spent much time reviewing the CBA, so take this with a grain of salt -- once league revenues exceed a certain amount, the players can vote to add a 5% growth assumption into the cap calculation for the following season. I think the downside to doing that is the risk that league revenues do not grow as hoped and the players, whose salaries are ultimately tied to revenues, end up losing part of their salary. Something like that.

Noon has it. The consequence is that they could end up paying a higher percentage into the league. IE like 22% of their salary.

Sorry Mass I read an article I thought was on NHL.com the other day that explained it but I can't seem to find it. Noon's explanation sounds pretty accurate.

This is why I don't understand the alleged $4mil in bonuses. I always thought the players cap hit on ELC's contained the entire bonus amount. PK and Tazer both made well under a mil but their hits were far greater.
