Well that assures Huet a spot on the AHL then.

I guess the rule is in place to keep teams from loading bonuses while keeping actual salary down as to avoid cap hits.

None the less it's stupid. Chalk up another reason why I hate the cap system. Or at least how the NHL cap operates.

Like you guys I will worry about it more in a couple months time. Right now isn't the time.

Reading Article 9, and Section 50 of the CBA (as listed on the NHL website), it is not very clear as to if this bonus counts towards this year's Cap since there is wording to insinuate that this bonus is not from an agreed SPC with the player, and potentially outside of the "league year" (what counts towards the cap); thus potentially not counted.

In short, wait and see.

But I do find it interesting that the $1000 more per seat that I pay for my STs goes directly to the team during pre-season and the playoffs, and to the league sharing revenues during the regular season. In short, I directly helped raise the cap this season. LOL.

Let the CAPOCALYPSE begin!

according to this one both Kane and Toews got their bonuses and are due $4m in bonuses. this could mean that the hawks couldn't even do the qualifying offers for the RFA without exceeding the 10% off-season increase on the cap. but who knows if that article is even accurate. glad it's not my headache.

Someone correct if I'm wrong but non-rookie contracts cannot be incentive based.

I would think nothing happens. He shouldn't have any bonus clauses in his contract. Kane and Toews are on the last year of their ELC's and they have bonus clauses. Question is which of them have they achieved.

The Hawks will solve this issue, even if it does take a bite out of the depth of the team short term. The really terrible thing would have been to be forced to break up the team without winning the Cup first, but now we know that's not the case.

With a core of Toews, Kane, Keith, Seabrook and Hossa, there's no way the Hawks aren't going to be a solid team no matter who the other 14 players in the lineup are.
