Yah early reports are Horton will play. No way that's not his shoulder acting up again. I doubt he will be effective at all esp after the first hard hit he takes. But you never know. Would be nice for him to be 10% of his usual self but the Hawks need to think about their game first and foremost. Just hope part of their game tomorrow is serving Horton a big fat "how do you do" into the end boards.

Right, it's not a game breaker or anything, said that numerous times. I don't think they're going to lose any game just because Bollig is dressed, a lot of other things have to go wrong before you can get to blaming a player like him. It's just I'd rather have Stalberg because he can be another skater that the Bruins have to worry about, whereas Bollig isn't in that way. But, overreaction runs rampant in NHL fandom, so people run with it.

Sooooo off topic here... I saw some stupid headline I think from chicago now about the surge of African American players in the NHL and it really bothered me... not the premise per say but it doesn't make sense to me. Why didn't he say Black? I think that would have been appropriate. And I believe it was a black guy who wrote the piece. But my real question regarding this is they used a picture of FUCKING JOHNNY ODUYA.... I'm not saying he isn't black.... I'm saying... he isn't African American. They went on to quote stats about how there are like almost like 48 African Americans in hockey now or some shit like that... but aren't most of them from outside America? So They wouldn't really be African Americans would they? And I doubt Oduya considers himself Afroswede... Swedican... Afrish... whatever. Or is that a thing? Do black people in canada call themselves African Canadians? That's and honest question I don't know, I had never thought of it. I know big Buff was from Minn... so he's an African American if he calls himself that. I can't think of many other black guys from America that are in the NHL... but I know I'm missing a boatload. So I guess my main point is it's late and the day and I"m getting cracky about semantics of a piece of shit blog by a guy who calls himself DJ something or other... Thoughts?

Actually... it's funny you bring him up, because of all the players in the NHL... he may be the only actual African... didn't fact check that, but he was born there... I believe Nigeria.

My thoughts are, there are so many mixed reactions on these kinds of topics that you will never get a true, real answer, so its like why bother.

No mass i have never hear the term African Canadian come out of anyones mouth here ever. People will consider themselves "black" or "canadian" or many times people will just refer to themselves as the region of their blood lines. "African", "Haitian" etc etc. Probably because we don't have that "melting pot" ideal in our politics and in our history but we have more of that "mosiac" ideal (dont tell the aboriginal population that though).

Very different political and historical background in canada with these topics. Doesn't mean that racism never existed and still doesn't.

So my wife is Panamanian of mixed Spanish, Indeginous tribes, and African descent with beautiful brown skin, and I'm pasty white caucasian. If my kids who also have dark complexion played hockey would they be African Indegnous Hispanic American?

More importantly will there be a box I can tick on the next census to properly label them?

I guess I wonder how much other countries try to delineate race. I mean if you are what 1/16th (or is it 1/32nd?) cherokee you can be as an "native american" and I think that if you have any black in you you're allowed to check the box on governement forms if you want. I don't care I'm just making conversation and it's curious. It struck me as really odd that this fucking idiot writing it was using Johnny Oduya as the poster boy for African American hockey players... I bring it up too because it's better than listening to idiots still pine for Stalberg, or Grim and pcmCXSMs troll each other... I just wish we could get rid of the focus of race so much. Maybe then it would have an impact on rasicm. I don't know. I am glad to see that their are no African Canadians... although that sounds really racist.

My favorite teams
 1. Portland Timbers

I think it should be that if your ancestry is more than 2 distinct backgrounds, your label is "Mutt".

Which is fine, because there's no dog more lovable, loyal, and faithful than the mutt.

I was just watching this and it happened at 14:50 of the 2nd OT and it really looked like Toews would have scored if he wasn't being choked with the stick. The puck was just sliding slowly in front of his feet with no one else around . I'm all for the refs letting them play but how much is too much?

lol that probably goes into the "too much category" for a few reasons. Im all for rough playoff hockey but not sure if i like the idea of guys having sticks wrapped around their neck like that. Not sure how anyone could find that acceptable. But then you have to ask if the officials even saw it at the time or not. For their sake I would hope it wasn't seen..doubt it though if the puck was that close to that incident.

Nice screen shot though. Shows how rough this game is and what guys like Toews go through.

What do you even call that? Two minutes for choking? Or does everything else end up in the "roughing" column? Lol

Speaking of off topic, and this is waaaaaaay too early to bring up with six games left, but when the Hawks won the cup several Hawks had bonus money paid to them for winning the cup that really hurt the Hawks with the salary cap the following year. Anyone know if that's the case this year with players having a bonus clause and if the new CBA factors in cup winning bonus clauses? Could be a real challenge with the cap going down and bonuses kicking in.

Honestly at this point I'd leave Bollig in, but I don't see why you couldn't move Shaw to center and sit Kruger... he's done nothing for me all playoffs. But neither has stalberg.

Besides the aforementioned PK role he plays, he also assisted on Oduya's tying goal to send the game into OT and was 54% on faceoffs (7 of 13).

RE THE PK: Along with Toews/Hossa, Kruger/Frolik are our most important PK forwards. They may be our most important because Toews/Hossa are racking up 5 on 5 minutes and play on the PP, so Kruger and Frolik are usually our freshest fowards, definitely important when you're a man down.

That's a good question came up in my head the other day also. It was Toews winning the Conn Smythe that created a bit more cap problems (problems being a lose term because it was delt with). I was wondering if that was adjusted within the new CBA also. Always found it dumb that a teams get pinned for bonus clauses such as that one. Other bonus clauses I understand but individual awards? Not sure if I ever liked the idea of being punished cap wise for giving those sort of bonuses.

So to answer your question..i have no idea but would like to know also and am not going to do the research myself either. :)

Actually, MOST blacks (or bi-racial players) in the NHL are Canadian or they emigrated to Canada at an early age from Carribean or African countries, exceptions being Americans Mike Grier, Dustin Byfuglien, Emerson Etem, Kyle Okposo or Swede Johnny Oduya.

Didn't read the article but it sounds like really shoddy journalism if they refered to (or grouped) the Black or bi-racial NHL players as African-Americans.
