Pippen had borderline superstar talent but he played his role in the NBA as a role player. He did a lot of great things on defense and did shut down Mark Jackson in the first couple of games of the E.C.F. until the Pacers adjusted. But yeah, there are a lot of Pippen-caliber players that come around in the NBA compared to scorers like Grant Hill. Both Pippen and Hill were great well-rounded players. Hill's offense (among other details like passing and rebounding whether 97bulls chooses to believe it or not) tipped the scale. I am fairly certain Hill would have gone down as a top 15 player of All-time. But I do think that 1999-00 season was up there among the great superstar seasons in NBA history.

Imagine if he stayed healthy and stayed teamed up with Tracy McGrady... talk about a one-two scoring punch from hell. That rivals Jordan and Pippen, Shaq and Kobe, and Wade and James now.

Disagree with that.

Disagree with that as well.

I guess you'd have to clarify what you term "greatest" Top 10? Top 15? Top 20? Etc. Even still, while that season for Hill was REALLY good, I'd be REALLY REALLY hard pressed to label it one of the greatest super star seasons ever. IMO you're reaching there...a lot.

I'd say it was probably top 30 or 40, but the reason I call it among the best is that most of those seasons happen by the same players over and over again. Jordan and Chamberlain for instance probably combined for about 12 of the best individual seasons just by themselves. That's what I meant.

I guess...but at that point does Hill's season really mean much in the grand scheme of things? He's battling seasons by MJ, WIlt, The Big O, Kareem, Hakeem, Bird, Magic, Isaiah, Lebron, Shaq, Kobe, and a shit load of other great players that are too numerous to list.

I guess when I think of "great NBA seasons" Hill's 1999-2000, while really good, doesn't even register as a blip on the radar.

Yeah I guess in hindsight it didn't end up meaning all that much. I am kind of bitter because I was a huge Grant fan back in the 90's. I was so happy that he left Detroit to go to the Magic that I bought his new jersey back in late 2000. I got that the same day I got my Cincinatti Reds Ken Griffey, Jr., jersey.

And yep, it was me who jinxed both of them.

You'd even have him fighting up hill against seasons like Pippens, Garnett's, Cowen's, and LeBron's seasons of leading their team in every statistical catagory.

I loved Hill as well but his career will forever to me be about unmet expectations/potential through no real fault of his own.

Sooooooooo because you are on a Bulls forum you should "jock" Bulls players? Is that what fandom has come to?

Did you read Pippen's statements on Jordan/Lebron? Your hero is "jockn" a member of the Miami Heat...or maybe he is giving his honest feelings as an observant of the NBA...maybe you should take a hint from him...

Well it's not his fault his ankles died on him while he was there...it's a darn shame though...

NBA fans are irrational. The only thing they remember are all those low production stats, the limited games, and the HUGE contract. I talk to a couple Magic fans all the time and one of them really hates Hill.

You are entitled to your opinion. Perhaps Pippen has superstar ability, but was never able to display it because Jordan was on the team (with the exception of those 1 1/2 years that you noted). I always thought of Pippen as a role player because thats kind of how I saw him being used on the Bulls.

Truth be told, all players are role players. When this conversation began I said pippen was a 1 trapped in a 2s role. That's the problem with this thread. Everyone is subjecting their opinion to different points of view. First timer wants to argue over what could've been. Rami over who the better scorer was. But all from hills point of view. Fact is we don't know how what pippen could've accomplished in the nba personally, cuz he spent his career playing behind the goat. And honestly, other than shaq and wilt, I don't see how most players would've faired much better.
