Sure I wanted more trenches but that’s not at all the premise of this thread. He said ‘this isn’t going to be the Detroit lions offense.’ Word for word.
Part of the reason I was so excited for Johnson was his ability to create an offense, not simply use the system he had in place. He said he developed the offense with Goff in a room over the course of days.
Part of being a GREAT offensive coach is innovation. Coming up with new stuff as NFL defenses catch on to what you are calling. Mike McDaniel is a great example of this where despite adequate QB play, good RB’s and WR’s, teams seem to catch on to his offense. The same things have been said of kingsbury.
Now he has acquired players mapping directly to those he had in Detroit which might or might not indicate he is building the same thing in Chicago. Makes me question if he will truly be developing off of his old system for Caleb Williams, or if he will be employing a lot / most of the same
Ok, I have to bite. Who in Detroit maps to Rome? Who is DJ? I guess Burden is St. Brown but he’s a better athlete and more highly regarded coming out of college.
The Bears really don’t have a Jameson Williams unless they grab Bond if he goes undrafted. Tyler Scott is fast but still unproven.
Who matches up with Kmet over there?
LaPorta matches pretty well with Loveland.
It looks like to me he wants to be able to effectively use any professional personnel grouping and have quality options at every spot to avoid predictably and create mismatches.
Oz is now the backup slot. Does Detroit have a guy like him? Maybe Raymond…
It looks to me he wants the flexibility to attack and adjust as needed.
The Bears have a quick back and a couple of power guys without counting Wheeler or Homer.
Obviously, the Lions have superior RBs at this point.
That doesn’t mean the guys the Bears have can’t be effective.
