No one is happier than me that Jim Hendry is not the GM of the Cubs this season, but Jim Hendry the scout isn't a bad person to have in the organization either. I realize that this was attempt at humor, but I just find the piling on unnecessary at this point.

Hopefully precedent holds out in this case and the guy is in the 25 to 30 range of a much better system than the last time this situation occurred (MacPhail to the Cubs*)

*Is anyone else creeped out between the parallels between MacPhail being named President and Theo? I realize that Jed Hoyer is much, much better than Ed Lynch, but as a history teacher I can't help shake that been there, done that feeling.

Cafardo On Dodgers, Ethier, Red Sox, Cubs, Orioles: MLB Rumors - MLBTradeRumors.com

An AL GM who is not associated with the Red Sox or Cubs believes that Commissioner Bud Selig will give Boston a significant player in the compensation agreement: "I don’t think MLB wants executives leaving their teams before their contracts are up and therefore he will try to deter teams from doing that again."

More like a best guess.

I imagine Selig won't give the Red Sox all that much. It probably tops out at Trey McNutt.

Most they'll get is McNutt or Vitters... if Selig is a dick Brett Jackson still could be in play unfortunately.

How about Rizzo back to Boston?

I think you have to use Andy MacPhail's case as a precedent. Boston gets two or three low- to mid-tier prospects plus cash, or else this deal probably isn't fair.

^Lol, I was thinking about that but as a joke.

The best 1B prospect in baseball is way more valuable than a GM.

Garza and Castro are who they wanted, and won't be getting. No way on Jackson and Rizzo. Baez can't be traded yet anyway as he was drafted less than a year ago. Not much to worry about.

I think the commissioner has powers to bend the rules a tad though. That's the wild card.

imo, its in baseball's best interest to have the Cubs competitive, and Selig knows that. i dont see him giving them anything that will really hurt the Cubs. I assume its McNutt or Vitters or 2 guys not in our top 15

It is in Baseball's best interest, but Selig also have to be fair. There will be plenty of people watching how this plays out.

McNutt is nothing special... he had a good year in 2010 but isn't highly touted anymore.

I do not agree. The Cubs are as popular as they are because of the losing. I think the franchise winning a championship would actually have a negative overall affect on the team.

Congrats.

This is even dumber than you not knowing what OPS+ is.
