Not a chance ever. Less Kool aid pls

What Kool Aid? You're talking about a popular team in one of the largest media markets in the world suddenly figuring out how to use their market strength and superior resources to win more baseball games. The Yankees are popular because they are the winningest team in the history of North American professional sports. The Cardinals are popular because they are the most successful National League team in the World Series era. If the Cubs win, you don't have to be a rocket scientist to realize that their popularity will rise. The Yankees have a huge lead in popularity for sure, and the Cubs have a ton of catching up to do, but to dismiss the possibility that the Cubs could improve and match that popularity is a bit much. I never said they'd overtake the Yankees though; there's a reason, as I mentioned, that the Yankees are as popular as they are.

No they are. 5x hits of Cubs vs Mets on google

The Cubs would gain some fans but Lose fans who cheer for them because of the underdog. Of the 3 million at Wrigley 2 million plus dont care if there is even a game

You are the dumbest fucking person on earth.

This is just dumb bullshit.

You're seriously arguing that if the Cubs won the WS they would LOSE fans and become less popular and that it would HURT the team?

:nelson: at you.

I don't know ANY Cubs fans that don't want them to win. Not a single one. Can you name one? What the hell is your proof or theory behind this logic?

You're terrible at life. Go back to preaching to your internet congregation.

There were actually some newspaper opinion pieces on how people prefer the crappy old Wrigley and the losing ways to whatever Theo is selling, so there are more than zero Cubs fans who prefer the team to keep losing

Sadly those fans actually get a soapbox to stand on, but that's America. Free speech and all that :beerbang:

There's a difference between putting the few people that don't get it (its a paper, they cherrypick to get a story)

Compared to saying were gonna lose a million fans because.

I know he isn't always rooted in real life in the first place. Lol.

This one is more measured as it concedes that Cubs fans do want to win, but would lose their "identity" because of failing to win for so long...

Wisch: What Cubs Fans Will Lose If They Ever Win

This one is more the tune of what I was thinking of, where the Cubs fan wants his team to win because they were grittier and scrappier, not because they were smarter, because somehow that reflects a Cubs' identity...

Root for Theo if you want, but I want my Cubs back - Chicago Sun-Times

I'm sure there are numerous blogs out there that are anti-Theo and anything that could change the existing "Cubs Way" (whatever the hell that is, it's not working  ) but I don't read everything so you'd have to hunt that down yourself.

Neither of those really say they want the Cubs to lose...they just want the Cubs to win "their way".

The other is about the Cubs fans losing their identity if they ever win..........meh, Boston didn't. They are still Boston.

That one is probably more in line with what Brett is saying. Personally I prefer the identity where the Cubs aren't perpetual losers, but there's always a contrarian.

Cubs fans having to get used to winning...and people choosing to longer be fans of them because they are winning are two seperate points.

Brett's stupid. That's something all fans can agree on.

I will concede that, although the tone in the second article suggested that the guy would rather forfeit a championship than to have to win the Theo Epstein way, which left me feeling pretty sour.

Which means he still wants to win..but for whatever reason doesn't want to do it the way it worked in Boston.

Which is absurd. But whatever.
