Matt Ellison played this past season with the Nizhny Novgorod Torpedo of the KHL.

Led them in scoring.

There's been some chirping in the Twitter-verse about if the 5.9 cap hit is a "home town" discount of sorts. Not sure if I buy that, but Sharp may have been able to get a bit more on the open market.
It's hard to tell when Stamkos/Weber are now earning the same, but I don't put Sharp in that kind of company-- yet he's completely a different player than the two.

I basically compare him to the piece the core needs, a la Pippen to the Bulls circa 1990s. Good extension. It will pay off.
I agree...more home-town would have been around $5 mil but im not complaining one bit...its a fair deal IMO
I'm not going to EVEN ask what that was all about. . . :doorrofl:

i just dont get the quote...Campbell's defense is something we will miss? :bizzaro:

Referring to some odd line about Leddy and Campbell, I guess, undressing or something...

After thinking about it -

I don't know.... I keep thinking of the fashion-show scene from Slapshot - where: "... when I do it, everyone will be heading for the exits, with the exception of my wife."

Between the Sharp deal, the Hawks getting the #1 Kane pick and the Cup Finals, I almost feel bad for the Flyers. Now they're overpaying a goalie and they get to pay Jagr to not play 60 games this year.

They can rest easy though- they did steal that one Sunday afternoon game against the Hawks late in 2010. That game really did piss me off. :elephant:

Not me. I live not far from Philly and the majority of fans around here like the Flyers. You wanna talk about the biggest bunch of asshats you'll ever meet, it's Flyer fans hands down. They deserve to have these things happen to their team.

Couple that with my hatred for the Flyers in the Cup finals because of goons like Pronger, Hartnett, and (at the time) Carcillo and they don't deserve any of my sympathy.

Hartnell is a pretty solid hockey player.

Honestly I assumed he'd get 6 or 6.25. He led the team in points and there are a lot of teams out there that will have cap room next year who need a solid veteran who can snipe and distribute. Hell, he could have gotten 6 and a half from somebody with room and a need for some punch. Someone was going to give him 6.5 next year so I think we got a nice little "home team discount" and I'm more than happy with 5.9.

Did a small happy dance in my office. Though it confused the shit out of my employees, it certainly made for a nice day.

He's a good hockey player but, he's also a compete tool out on the ice. Not saying guys have to be "mr. niceguy" but, he's a complete asshole.

How do people not understand what getting undressed means? Anyway, I'm not happy with Soupy being gone. The only thing I didn't like about him was his salary. I have faith in Leddy, but I agree that the moment he gets undressed people that didn't want Soup will want him back.

I think they do, but understandably a Sharp-themed thread can cause people to think homosexually.

Tbo ... no need for diplomacy here...:smug2:

On the "Undressed" fake debate -- look, if some of you guys are suggesting that Campbell is a defensive defenseman -then that is your business. For me the guy was, and is a one trick pony, a non-physical, offensive defenseman.

Ergo "undressed" - or stripped of the puck, or coughed it up ... whatever your cliche du jour might be ...

frankly that doesn't apply based upon the personnel comparison involved --- and therefore there was only one meaning to the cliche being used ...

and that is - it couldn't possibly have been hockey play... unless the op considered that Brian Campbell was capable of some sort of defensive defenseman play.

-> I'd be willing to discuss analysis of actual hockey play with said poster at any point, something that some newer members should be aware of, that is not the reverse case (with anyone -which is well documented in this folder -and presumably others as well.).

I'm still going to maintain that the Soup trade happened a year early, because I don't think that Leddy is ready.

But having Sharp re-signed and some of the other moves that happened thanks to the flexibility that created have helped.

If Leddy proves me wrong, that'd be excellent, because Leddy stepping into Campbell's role could be the extra little step that makes the Hawks a Cup-contending team.

Soupy could play. He was the rare guy who could take the puck from behind his own net and skate it all the way to the other end, never losing control, and camp around the circles or even behind the opposing net, and distribute. He even started hitting last year.

Two years ago I despised him because he played soft and NEVER passed. If he couldn't skate the puck out of our end he simply fired it deep. Irritated the shit out of me. Last year though, I think he really came around, and I changed my opinion of him.

That said, there's no way he was worth that chunk of money. That's effin Shea
Weber money. He made more than Sharp, Kane, or Toews. That's just Special person.

I'm glad we signed him when we did because it signaled a new era. Stud free agents just weren't coming to Chicago. That year though we landed him and the biggest netminder on the market and that started our ball rolling.

He was a good pickup, a good skater, and he was really growing on me at the end, but 7 bills is 2 bills too many.

It remains to be seen if we made the rght choice spending the 7+ on Olesz, Montador, and Lepisto, but for damned sure it didn't need to be on one defenseman.

This is beautiful. The exact reasons that I liked Soupy, but I just hated his contract. He was an important part of our defense. He'll be missed this year, but I hope that Leddy can take his roll.
