Umm more like Captain Negativity.
If you already know your "favorite" team is gonna suck and isn't going to win, why do you even follow the team? If I felt the team had no chance to win I wouldnt even bother wasting my time.

I don't think they're good enough to win the Superbowl right now. You think that means I should quit following them? What kind of fan are you? I watch 16 games whether they're 13-3 or 4-12.

I never stopped watching through the Wanny years so dont doubt my Fanhood... That said every year I had hope that we could win the superbowl, I guess its optimism vs "realism"

I understand what you're saying but I don't think an incessant homer is necessarily a better fan than someone who views football more objectively. Both are rooting for the same team at the end of the day.

I did not read this whole thread but was this real? Did he actually say that? I'm a little disappointed, I know for a fact if he was on the team he would say they are good enough to win the super bowl. I would like to see him be a Bears backer for life. But if he can't move on, then oh well.

I wasnt shocked because its typical Urlacher, but I also agree that if he was on the team he would say superbowl bound and since he's not suddenly the team sucks. I just think its a bit much for a guy who claims he hasn't even paid attention to how the team is doing in the off season and he just says we are automatically worse than the pack and vikes....

He has a right to be honest but I was hoping for a little more homerism, but it is what it is.

I think the Vikings and Bears are pretty close, but they do have the benefit of continuity. They won 10 games last year just like the Bears did. I don't really see how anyone can say the Bears are all that far ahead of them, at least until they show it on the field.

These titles like "incessant homer" paint everything as black and white, I hope my team goes 16-0 but I know they won't. Every year there are new players drafted and signed and moves made so it should give you new hope that the team is gonna be able to make moves to sneak into the playoffs where anything is possible. If they end up 0-4 to start "realism" slaps the koolaid out of your mouth.

So again I can understand a little caution based on the Bears making changing, but to say they aren't gonna win, is kind of pessimistic for no reason after two preseason games that have looked very promising.

Continuity of what? Crap? Of AP having a 2k season?

Everything about that team is riding on AP. And as amazing as he is, thats Special person. Yeah, it worked last year. But riding a single HB through 16 games is not a way to win consistently.

Talent wise, I put both Chicago and Detroit over them. And if Detroit wasn't the maser of implosion I would put them above the vikes without hesitation.

Oh I very good reasons for thinking the Bears aren't good enough to win the Superbowl.

Like what after two preseason games, where the defense has looked ready to pick up right where they left off last year, and a Oline that looks twice as good as last years?

And a brand new coaching staff with a brad new system which by all accounts is one of the more complex in the game.

And a QB who still hasn't shown that he can get the ball to anyone other than Brandon Marshall or whoever is covering him.

Don't get me wrong, I think the offense is a lot more talented than it has been, and I'm not one of these fans who thought or thinks that the defense is going to take a big step backwards, if at all. I just think there are too many questions yet to consider the Bears as a serious Superbowl contender in 2013. I'm not saying it's impossible, I'm just saying I don't think they're quite good enough yet.

Why does that bother you?

Wont say it bothers me, its a message board so I see shit and have an opinion so I write it.
As for new coaching staff /system its all positive so far to me because last years system was horrible, OC didn't know how to call plays, and they had to stay in max protect most of the time because the oline sucked. I think everything Ive seen is a positive over last year.

As for Cutty, he is gonna throw interceptions always has but alot of them are because he was constantly under pressure so I think he will be much better just based on the new Oline. After 19TD 14INT in that horrible offense, I see 25TD and 15INT as easily within his range. I have no reason to think otherwise just because he forced an INT to BMarsh yesterday.

I agree 100%. But if for nothing else, he could show some support to his former, and many long time team mates. The team is very much improved this yr. We know it, and im sure he knows it, so saying they are bottom feeders is pretty weak.

9-7

What few stars the Bears have left on D are too old to stop half the league.

Briggs said Urlacher and him are still great friends and that they talk every day even text pictures during camp. Urlacher still friends with most the guys on the team, I'm pretty sure they know he supports them. If anything Urlacher is the biggest homer who has always supported his coaches and teammates even when the fans didn't. And then when Urlacher told the fans to **** off and that he had his teammates and coaches back, the fans got all pissy. If anyone has his teammates back it's Urlacher and the Bears players know it by listening to them talk about him, and listening to Urlacher talk about his former teammates. It's the fans and ppl on this board who blow shit out of proportion. All Urlachers teammates have said about them is how much of a leader he is and great teammate. You haven't heard one teammate talk shit about Lach... The fans here are abunch of cry babies

That said, he said the Packers are the favorite with the Vikings in 2nd. That doesn't mean he isn't pulling for the Bears or think they can't win it all, it just means what it means. Those two are the favorites until we prove other wise we should shut up and let the season play out.

Teams don't shut Peterson down with 8 in the box. Ponder hasn't exactly made anyone honest.

Shut him down was a poor choice of words on my part but. But stacking 8 doesn't work at stopping Peterson because the Vikes were able beat teams with Rudolph & Harvin if defenses did fill up the box & only focus on Peterson. With a regularity of run blitzing 6-7 while still accounting for Rudolph & Jennings, I like their chances of keeping him within reason rather than the 154 yards he put up on the defense in the second game of 2012 which the Bears still only lost by one score. It's sure seemed to work for the Packers when they beat the Vikes in the playoffs. Also, "other teams" may not have a defense that will likely end up ranking around the top third of the league either.

Who said anything about Ponder? Who btw was really no worse than Cutler last season. Even Ponder can hit up his TE in the flats or Harvin on a slant. Harvin & Rudolph helped that offense a lot when teams set their focus on Peterson. Harvin was very explosive from the slot, he & Rudolph made opposing teams pay for staking eight. I know Peterson did some great things last season but he didn't run against eight in the box as much as people say he did either. If Peterson, or any HB, ran against eight in the box as much as people make it sound he'd be dead halfway through the season, & sure as hell wouldn't run for over 2000 yards.
