I added scoop du jour on my facebook some interesting rumors:
The Minnesota Timberwolves have the second overall pick in the draft, which seems like it should be a good thing, but the Sporting News reports that the team isn't excited about its choices and has been trying to trade the pick.
The Wolves already have a young guy at forward, Michael Beasley(notes), who fills the same role as the consensus No. 2 selection, Arizona forward Derrick Williams. The Sporting News reports that the team is asking for a lot in return for the pick: "The latest from Minnesota has the team targeting ... forward Pau Gasol(notes)" of the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for the pick. Gasol averaged 18.8 points, 10.2 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game last season.
The Timberwolves have already been rejected by the Washington Wizards when it asked to trade the pick for 7-0 center JaVale McGee(notes), the Sporting News notes. McGee averaged 10.1 points, eight rebounds, and 2.4 blocked shots per game last season.
There's been plenty of talk about the Philadelphia 76ers dealing Andre Iguodala(notes) this offseason and HoopsWorld reports that he "may find a new home this week."
The site notes that it seems as if the Sixers would like to get a deal done before Thursday's draft gets underway. The team has the 16th pick in the first round and would like to know if it's going to have Iguodala on its roster or not when it has to make that selection.
"If Iguodala isn't dealt, they'll likely draft a big man such as Markieff Morris or Donatas Motiejunas," HoopsWorld reports. And if Iguodala does get dealt, "they're expected to eye a perimeter scorer such as Marshon Brooks or Jordan Hamilton."
HoopsWorld names the Los Angeles Clippers as the frontrunner to land Iguodala in exchange for Chris Kaman(notes), a deal the site reports has been discussed since February.
Memphis Grizzlies forward Rudy ***(notes) was injured for a good chunk of last season and only got to watch as his teammates made it all the way to game seven of the Western Conference Semifinals before getting booted from the playoffs by the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Now *** may be watching the Grizzlies from a much further seat this coming season. ProBasketballTalk's sources tell the site that the Cleveland Cavaliers are "exploring some sort of deal" for ***.
ProBasketballTalk notes that "*** continues to be discussed in trade rumors despite management's insistence he is not available."
In the 54 games he played last season before being injured, *** averaged 19.8 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game. He's spent his entire five-year career with the Grizzlies.
Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert will take a seat courtside Monday so he can watch the work of Turkish center Enes Kanter, who will be having his second workout with the team before the NBA draft kicks off Thursday night.
The 19-year-old's manager says the team is considering his client for the No. 1 pick, Yahoo! Sports' Marc J. Spears reports. The team also has the fourth overall pick.
"It wouldn't be necessary for Enes to go again if he isn't being considered for the top pick," said Kanter's manager, Max Ergul, Spears reports. "Their word to me is good enough for him to return. They said they didn't make a promise to anyone for No. 1."
Last week, Cavs coach Byron Scott told Yahoo! Sports that two players were in the running for the overall first pick: Duke point guard Kyrie Irving and Arizona forward Derrick Williams.
Kentucky point guard Brandon Knight is also working out for the Cavs Monday, Spears notes.
The New York Knicks are looking for a backup point guard and the New York Daily News reports that the team has "had preliminary discussions with the Minnesota Timberwolves about a trade for point guard Jonny Flynn(notes)." The Wolves, of course, no longer need Flynn on the roster now that Ricky Rubio(notes) has decided to leave Spain and join the NBA.
Flynn was the sixth overall pick in the 2009 draft and the Knicks staff is debating whether he "would be a viable option to back up Chauncey Billups(notes) for at least one season."
The Daily News reports that the most likely player for the Knicks to deal in the trade is Toney Douglas(notes).
Flynn played in only 53 games last year due partially to hip surgery he had last July. He averaged 5.3 points, 3.4 assists, and 18:30 minutes per game.
