I don’t want to go back to the cover 2 defense I like the 3-4 and would like to stick to guys that will continue what we are dominating with. We just went through a rebuild why rework what’s dominate?

I think Nagy gets his DC from Philly or KC.

Chiefs’ Bob Sutton is literally the worst DC in the league and helms the worst defense in the league. We should all riot if he hires Bob Sutton. Chiefs fans will all laugh while thanking the Bears for taking him off their hands.

Martz then worked as an analyst for the NFL Network, before joining the Bears as offensive coordinator just before the 2010 season.

But we don't have Lovie to talk him out of TV like he did Martz ...

Nepotism could be the down fall of a promising team like ours. Lions allowed Patricia to hire his buddy for dc despite him being garbage and it hurt their team. I hope we don’t follow in that direction totally agree with you

Why did you have to remind me about Martz?

I actually preferred Cutler under Martz to Cutler under Gase (whom everyone praises as being the ultimate Cutler "whisperer")

I get the frustration with starting off every season pass-happy and Martz needed to be sat down and reminded there is a running game available and someone on the roster named Forte. But I liked Martz enough.

Don't have to run a cover 2 just because they switch to a 4-3, and even a switch to 4-3 doesn't mean they'll be lining up in a traditional 4-3 much. They already run some cover 2 anyway, along with most other coverages. NFL defenses (most) are more flexible today than they've been in the past.

I would like it to be someone with a DB background.

Coverages are the most difficult thing to teach and run well and having someone who is really good in that area would be a huge help. Especially as good teams are running a lot of match coverages [start zone and end in man].

I wouldn't mind G.Williams if we weren't a defense already used to a guy with the personality and character that Fangio has and going from him to a guy that talks down to his players is too big a change for me and i would think for the players. I'm sure you guys watched hard Knocks and saw the way he talks to his players. I already think losing Fangio and most likely Donatell is gonna be a pretty big change for the players so if we change it up by going to a guy that some players might not respect how he talks to them could be really bad. I think i'm down to:

E.Donatell---probably going with Fangio though
Jay Rodgers--if Nagy and others think he can take the leap from d-line coach to DC
Vance Joseph
Steve Wilks--depending on if he can coach a 3-4
Kris Richard--Same with Wilks
Mike Caldwell--Don't know much about him but he's last on my list.

Rex Ryan is interesting bc his players love him. How much does his ego effect the decisions is concerning and chances are it’s just a warm up gig for another shot at HC somewhere. So idk about him.

I don’t think Greg Williams fits Nagys culture.

I agree, Gregg is too much of a personality shift from Fangio who these guys are use to and responded to.

Fangio's refusal to blitz more in order to disrupt Foles' timing is an under-discussed aspect of last week's loss. I don't know why he's gotten such a pass on the game he called.

To be fair, Foles had the bet passer rating in the NFL when facing pressure, soooooo...

Kind of related to this, but not really....Gregg Williams had an interesting "close game" defensive philosophy. He said that usually teams will play a soft prevent in the last minutes of a game, forcing the opponent to chew up the clock and not have enough time to run their regular offense. Williams thought the opposite. He had his defense blitz even more late in the game, thinking his defense will either make a turnover/big play to seal the win, or they will allow a quick score that gives their offense enough time to come back.

To a poster above, Cover 2 is just a shell, 2 safeties, and is payed from various fronts.

As for Williams, I like him as a candidate based purely on the D he runs. But the bounty thing doesn't sit well with me. It's one thing to want to ge aggressive and make teams fear playing you because they'll feel your hits, it's another to encourage intentionally blowing out guys knees.

Just by that comment if we had Williams there would be no way eagles would have won that game

Unfortunately that's the problem with the majority of hiring om the NFL
