New Years Day should have nothing to do with Hockey. That has been claimed by college football.

There are 1,230 regular season games a year.

I don't see why having 6 outdoor games is watering down the event. If anything, it's allowing more teams/cities/fans to experience an outdoor game. It's promoting the game and possibly bringing in new fans, venues, and publicity. I'm sure the players will enjoy it as well.

That sounds good in theory, but considering five of the 12 teams participating have already experienced a Winter Classic... How many "more" teams are really benefitting from it?

And if that's the case, why not just let every team host a Winter Classic every year?

Maybe the NHL has us scripted to play the Penguins in the finals this season. I have felt for years that they are not above "helping" series to come out the way the NHL thinks will be a big draw. (Some officiating just cannot be explained...)

If that is the case I think it should be setup that we sweep the penguins to avenge the 92 finals and then the outdoor game can be the rubber match

Christ, Allah, and Odin they're driving these outdoor games into the mud.

They should just make the allstar game outdoor and be done with it.

Right...and they really cannot call the Jan 1 game "The" Winter Classic when it is one of 6 or 8 such games. Or 30. Do I hear 32?

Me thinks we all doth protest too mucheth

I am only going to care about the Hawks and Pens playing at Soldier Field next season. I don't give a hoot about the rest of the stuff except that I am eager to see the merch and logos for all these teams because I am a clothes horse.

The wife and I are hoping to make it to the Soldier Field game (if they have it) as we went to the Wrigley game. We will have to come up to Chicago and leave the little guy with grandma or one of his aunts, but that is just logistics. It didn't take much to convince her we needed to go ;-) I love my wife!

6 games in one year really waters down the excitement of the whole idea. Problem is, the NHL doesn't care for history (ala moving Redwings to East).

Also, why the Pens? Obviously the league is banking on a Chi-Pitts Stanley Cup finals. I'd rather see St. Louis or Vancouver play against the Hawks in a WC then the Penguins.

Everyone was curious how the NHL was going to "make the money back" from the lockout. Here is where the money comes back. This $hit $how.

All in all, it's a stupid idea. I like the idea of 1 outdoor game a year as it makes it more unique and special. Having 6 in one year will just lose any specialty or uniqueness it had.

Need an East presence for a National audience. St. Louis & Vancouver doesn't cut the bill for an East audience.

Becasue I imagine that they are hoping it's going to be a rematch of this years Stanley cup finals, they'll have that story line then. I know the Detroit storyline is going to be there too, but they are going to play them next year either way. I think this is going to be the only @Chi game for Pitt?
