He had said that numerous times, but he is. That can't be hidden. GM's and manager just say that so the player doesn't think too much and put him in doubt. Look what Maddon did with the Garza speculation...he said Garza will be pitching for the Rays in 11'. But, that is BS too.

As much as I like CQ, he doesn't have the value that we need. He can't stay healthy. We can only hope he produces like in 08 this year and we could ship him at the deadline or keep him.

1) they arent going to get what we got back from carlos lee. the only prayer is there is a team desperate for cheap power and is Special person. i can say after seeing jason werth and carl crawfords contracts that GMs are stupid, and anything can happen.

2) he is being shopped no matter what we here.

How about shipping him to Pittsburgh plus cash for some of their youth?

We all know Pitt is looking for a name to sell tickets and is always looking to get cash from deals by shipping off their youth (don't they have one of the best youth systems?)

I unno. Shitty situation.

TCQ for Joel Hanrahan and their backup 3B, Josh Rodriguez? Rodriguez could be a nice UTIL player for us off of the bench.

The only tickets Carlos Quentin will sell for Pittsburgh are the ones that his family and friends purchase. I would not mind reloading our farm with Quentin like you pointed out. Part of me thinks he will bounce back this season and have good offensive production.

I wouldn't consider the Pitt market very smart. They'll see a White Sox power bat who nearly won an MVP, it'll be a big trade for them as they are used to trading away their best players, this time it'll look like they are getting a big time player from a big time market.

Their FO is far smarter than it has been in years past.

yeah, their executives (who are making a financial killing for themselves)

But their fans....well I don't rate their intelligence very high (I live an hour from Pitt).

Their execs know bringing in CQ would impress their fanbase. Surely shirt sales would go up.

Yeah...until he has an OBP of .320 in August and is laughable again in the outfield. I'm sure every front office in the MLB is aware of this likelihood, and for an operation like the Pirates, they'd look at Quentin and see a guy that could give them solid-to-great numbers, but the likelihood is that he will be somewhere around league average, possibly below, and why ship off young, cheap talent for that?

Perhaps they think a change of scenery may be what he needs? Remember it's the Pirates, quentin with the way he is playing currently would be one of the top 2 if not 3 players in Pittsburgh.

And that is what the Pirates do every year, they trade away most of their youth for cash. I think their business plan is "make money" not win championships. Only a few markets can do both, the others have to play a careful balancing game, I'm pretty sure the Pirates have said **** that. :lmao:

Only issue i have with it is that his value is at an all time low. Offensively, he is a low risk high return guy. But in RF (which is definitely where he would be) he is god-fucking-awful.

If we had room for him in LF , I would say keep him. Unfortunately our OF's are Rios, Pierre, Dunn, and CQ and 3 of the 4 can only play LF. Damn.

Is there anything new with Quentin being shopped?

Or better yet, has there been any Sox rumors at all lately? It seems like after the Crain signing the Sox have been quiet...a little too quiet.

I still don't buy the Quentin rumors, it seems like Cowley is the only one that ever seriously reported on it. Q will be your everyday RF next year; if anyone gets moved it will be Viciedo, Morel, or Flowers. It seems like KW and JR are in win now mode, they are only going to move young guys.

nothing, not a word other than the ticket sales have increased in volume compared to last year. i think we got our xmas gifts in dunn, konerko, aj, and crain. if KW goes the other way, we arent happy fans.

Maybe, but I don't know what Viciedo and Flowers will bring us. (I don't think Morel will be moved but thats just me). Viciedo has some value being a young, cheap power hitter with upside is he could control his bat a bit more (he's done an okay job at that thus far, but still needs work).

Dumping Quentin, like you said, isn't something I'm buying much either. But like Viciedo, he's a young power hitter with upside if he can stay heathly. Maybe if he has another 2008-esque season in 2011 they can ship in off for something. My preference would be a center or right fielder that can play solid D. He doesn't even have to hit well (see: Anderson, Brian), just be an above average fielder you can bat 9th.

If Quentin has a 2008 season next season, we better get a hell of a lot more than a fucking BA.
