Source says #WhiteSox aren't only team to make multi-year offer to Paul Konerko. Deal likely won't be wrapped up today.

Paul Konerko-1B-White Sox Dec. 7 - 2:02 pm et

Sources have told Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com that Paul Konerko has a multi-year offer on the table from a team other than the White Sox.
Konerko has a great relationship with White Sox chairman Jerry Reinsdorf and is sure to give the club a chance to match any free agent offer. But the Pale Hose still have some holes in their bullpen and need to save a little room in the budget for patching purposes. It's quite possible that the White Sox will have to outbid by a team like the Diamondbacks or Orioles to finally lock up Konerko, who is thought to be asking for a $15 million annual salary.

Well Pujols is a free agent next year!! So is Prince Fielder. Why give the money to a 34 yr old 1B? I like Paulie but this is a business

Adam LaRoche

Nuff said.

:turrible:

'Nuff said? As a replacement for Paulie? No way. I've lived in Phoenix since '95 and became a fan of the D-backs when they formed. While I like LaRoche and wish the Diamondbacks would keep him, he is not as good of a player as Konerko. I watched every Sox game I could and listened to the balance on my iPhone, and watched just about every D-backs game, so I speak from first-hand knowledge. The White Sox will always be my favorite team and I'll always want the best for them and Adam LaRoche is not the answer. I was excited Edwin Jackson went to the Sox, although I wish Hudson was still with them, but I'm glad he's with my second favorite team (who knows if he would have had the same success in the AL anyway). Paul Konerko and Adam Dunn are what the White Sox need.

Were not getting Pujols. Why would you want Prince? He's not long for this MLB world.

I would love to have Prince on this team either this year or next, but the thing is that Werth deal really screwed things up. He's probably now going to want/get a $130-140 MM contract now, and with the recent Dunn signing I don't think the Sox would be willing to commit that much money over that long of a term, even with Buehrle's contract coming off the books, especially considering the Sox needed Dunn and AJ to defer money from their 2011 salaries to clear space for Konerko under the budget. I love that JR has opened his pocketbook this off-season, but I really don't think he is in "blank check" mode, and that is certainly what would be needed to go after Prince via the trade-extension or free agent routes.

All that being said, Prince Fielder is one of the best in the game, and his OBP and power-hitting abilities would mesh really well with US Cellular Field. I'd want to talk to a doctor or two about his aging prospects given his physical stature, but he would be an absolutely amazing player to put alongside Adam Dunn.
