So what I am struggling with is what Rock's issue with these statues really is.

- I know he brought up that the guys never played at the UC, but honestly that does not matter as the CS no longer exists, and the UC is now the 'Hawks home.

- He brought up that it is the house that Jordan built, but we all know that while Jordan was the biggest name there at the opening, he only played a few seasons in that building, and it was not primarily constructed for just Basketball.

- He brought up that the guys were not deserving, which I find odd considering they really are two of the largest names for the 'Hawks all time and it is not like either fell off the map. Hell, even Bobby's name stayed very relevant to the hockey world in the 90's and early 00's thanks to the goal scoring prowess of Brett.

Just at a loss at what his real issue with this is as this is the type of stuff than fans pine for. Now the timing is interesting, sure, but lack of deserving this honor does not make sense....then again there is that nice bronze statue at the old site, which he could have brought up. There are obvious likenesses.

The spousal abuse stuff is disturbing but nonetheless the statue is for his hockey on-ice contributions and not to recognize him as an outstanding figure in society. Clearly I think you would find those episodes of violence occurred during a drinking binge. Doesn't excuse it but helps explain it some. Imagine the tail he was getting back then, and still gets today. I wonder who on the current Hawks roster gets the most tail these days?

If people really want to dig into backgrounds then you could also make a case that

Stosh is not worthy either. My father and his friends have shared stories of them

back in the day that they personally witnessed. Ask Stosh how long he has been sober

for and then ask him why he quit.

Either way they are both damn worthy of the statues being discussed. They are legends

not only in Chicago but the entire hockey universe. Their contributions to the NHL

and the Blackhawks off the ice deserves to be recognized as well.

On the flip side modern day players doing the same things would have two differences. One they'd actually be arrested and convicted and two, not playing the game as the league would have suspended them.

Different times I guess. I'm still torn.

Most of the NHL teams do a Dads trip. Nothing new. Just new for the Hawks.

We could go back to the old days of not winning shit and doing nothing extra.

I wouldn't mind much the "bandwagoners" would leave.

Agreed 1,000%

If people wanted to go digging into backgrounds, well... I'm sure they'd find that MJ isn't so "worthy"

While I have been kidding around about Bobby's way with the ladies, what they do in their personal lives is really none of my business and I fully agree that this is all about what they did for the 'Hawks, NHL, and hockey. There is no one I think is really all that innocent of anything, especially in environments were one is constantly in the public eye.

While I agree I gaurantee had he "repeatedly" beat his wife or spouse, on multiple occassions, it would have been more than public knowledge. In his day and age he'd have been arrested and convicted as well.

Off ice, on ice, when an ambassedor for said organization it all factors in IMO.

Sorry thats about as BAD as it gets. I have no tollerance for ANYONE abusing their spouse! ANYONE! On my list I don't give a shit what you did to get the recognition that superceeds it.

Theo Fleury helped bring the only SC in the history of the Flames. I wonder if they'll erect a statue outside the Saddle Dome for him. And I have more compaassion for Theo as far as his up bringing and Disease he was afflicted with.

Many Many things have become much more public since he retired, and especially since he got divorced. I know Bobby was a superstar and all, but he didn't have the kind of money and corporate backing that MJ had to make his degenerative gambling, adultery, and alleged abuse go away.

Not a chance. In Hulls day it was far easier for things to "go away" than it ever was today. The media today, especially for the supstars is far more efficient.

I have heard stories where the CPD would call the old man to come get Bobby or clear up what ever was going on at the time long before any "media" was alerted.

As for one wife, it's not ONE, it's MULTIPLE incidents. With multiple spouces. If it was a one time occurance maybe I'd let it slide, but it was an on going event, with different partners.

Long ago it was the good old boys network. That would not work today. Ask Kobi how it worked. Or MJ with his divorce proceedings. It's exactly the opposite of what you suggested above.

There is a difference though, my point was that just because Bobby got away with it doesn't mean it wasn't common knowledge. MJ's personal life was completely unblemished I would say all the way up to probably when his dad died and the gambling started coming out. I don't know so I'm asking, but can Bobby say the same? I would assume that by wife two it was pretty much known who he was?

It wasn't common knowledge because the media and times were different. Jordons follies were public knowledge. His gambling was reported on. In fact it was suggested in multiple places his "baseball fiasco" was a direct suspension from the NBA for those actions.

Either way no one had a clean record but I personally have a huge problem with those MEN that put their hands on their wife in a manner of voilence. Hey thats just me though.

I realize I'm not the most astute communicator, and yes basically along the lines of what Supra said, but in context of what I had been typing and the conversation I was having with RK, he understood what I was saying. Let's just move on.

Move on? I know what you are trying to say, and let me just say, you are wrong for that.
