Seriously? If a 1-2-2 is a 1st guy in pushes the puck carrier to the boards and the 2nd guy cuts him off, then a 3-2 would be 3 forwards on the puck and and 2 d staying back.

Now a 2-3 is 2 forwards on and and 3 guys back. This is a very aggressive forecheck, which primarily is used to intimidate teams and provide heavy checking as the D on the strong side pinches, and the forward who is the only one back goes to his point to cover for him. I haven't seen the Hawks set up like this. Just because the D pinches doesn't mean it's a 2-3. It's all about how the team pressures when they are going in to retrieve the puck.
