Practical effects look pretty good to me

That's what's great about having the financial backing of Disney. Everyone was so worried when they acquired Marvel and Star Wars. Honestly, they seem intent on making good movies for all ages. And they're not dumb either. They make it too cutesy-kiddy with crap like ewoks and jar jar, the fans will turn on them faster than J.Webb can eat a taco. And it's their cash cow investment for years to come, so they can't afford to screw this up.

JJ Abrams: Hmmmm...not sure I want to direct Star Wars.
Disney: Here's a blank check. Just make a damn good movie and give the fans what they want.

I agree. I also loved the lego movie when I took my nephew to it. That was disney, right?

And For better or worse, abrams is the blockbuster of quality bro of record. Avatar sucked. James cameron hasn't made a good movie since aliens.

Agreed. Too bad they are going to steer clear of the EU (for now, anyway). He would make an EPIC villain.

hey man, all I'm saying is it was no empire strikes back or aliens. those are the 2 movies I don't regret seeing on the big screen.

Avatar was visually striking. The plot was ok, and Sam Worthington was...well...Sam Worthington. His delivery gets very wooden at times. I watched it once, and didn't hate it, but I certainly have no desire to watch it - or any sequel spawns - again.

It felt like it was made 20 years too late.

On a side note, looking forward to seeing Sigourney Weaver and Michael Biehn back in action for Neil Blomkamp's Alien movie.
