The kid is amazing, so he deserves his own thread.

What do you all view as his ceiling?

I don't think he even has a set ceiling, but where would you place it?

Miggy was on your bench. And it was Venters, Rolen, Butler, and Furcal.

If he wasn't on your bench, I wouldn't have asked for him, lol.

He'll probably bat a career .300 AVG. Probably like 10-15 HRs a year. Probably close to .400 OBP.

This, and probably 24+ errors a year until they wise up and move him to 2B.

Don't listen to any of my fellow White Sox fans.... Starlin Castro is a future stud. Right now, he is an offensive All-Star with even more potential. He *could* be the #3 hitter on the Cubs. He has more power then people think.

For his sake, I hope he has a good defensive tutor because it doesn't come naturally to him, even with practice, and he rushes his actions. He needs to calm down and be more fundamental, obviously, but I'm not sure who his defensive coach is, so I can't comment on his potential to improve in that area.

Regardless, Castro is a natural hitter and will only become better. If the Cubs had a real lineup, he is the perfect 2 or 5-6 hitter. But he might end up as a 3 by mid-season.

.400 OBP is still going to be a stretch for a career.

If I was a Cubs fan, I wouldn't be too worried about that if he has 100+ runs, 20+ SBs, .300 average, and 75+ RBIs in his current role.

You guys are too high on him. Remember, it's been a whopping 5 games.
But we're also talking about a guy who hit .300 last season and is still the youngest player in the majors. It's hard to be too high on that.

but to say he will have a .400 OBP after evaluating a player that hasnt played a full season, and has only played 5 games this year...how can you really say with such confidence he will have a career .400 OBP? I am not saying he wont be good or great, but dont you think it is premature?

 All of those stats literally mean nothing. Brav-O!

We're also talking about the guy who had a .325 wOBA. We're also talking about a guy who has never walked more than 10%. Only 1 SS all-time with over 1,000 PA has had an OBP over .400. So unless you think he's gonna hit like .350 every year, I don't see how you can bet on him getting even close to .400.

Why are you focused in only on a .400 OBP. Dunn and Thome have close to .400 OBP and I could name plenty of players I would rather have on their team. OBP isn't the end all.

Look at everything else, offensively speaking, that he brings to the table. He has the potential to be something special offensively.
