I believe to move Sweat this year, it would be a $34 million dead cap hit.
Ouch. Well that wouldn't work then but maybe they can figure ways to make it work for us.

It's only 4 million, but another 8 million would push onto next year's cap. Cap savings this year is 21 million and 13 million next year.

Didnt know you got the script from @zabavka

I'm not even worried about brisker, his contract would be peanuts compared to the grand scheme of things even if he stays healthy and plays well.

When TJ's massive cap hit would come in is when guys like rome, ozzy, caleb, burden, lovlenad etc. would have to be paid. Positions that actually make big $$

Sure you can say they will suck, but its a major reason why I'm not a fan w/ the hendrickson trade. TJ Watt is clearly a better player but I dont believe this team is an elite edge away from superbowl since we dont even know if caleb is a good NFL QB much less a great one.

Caleb could easily still be the worst QB in the nfl on throws over 10 yards and massively handicap the upside of this offense, in that scenario we would have another 2019 scenario where we effed the cap to go all in on a qb who wasnt the answer.

Feel like if you make a trade like this, you do it at the deadline if/when you know caleb has improved drastically and the team is ready to take that leap

I'm still crossing my fingers the cowboys start the season sucking and put micah parsons up for trade. Now thats someone I'd love to pay 40m+ year
Brisker's brain is scrambled and that flappy hand shit he does is lame amirite?

Of the Bears were one player away from superbowl perhaps you take a gamble. However, this coach, this system, this Team has a lot to prove before anyone figures out one player will put them over the top. And for $40 mil per year.

That is probably accurate, but imo not a good way to run a team. I also think if they really wanted to go all in they could have shelled out $ for Darnold or someone. I don't think anyone really thinks Rodgers is the guy.

They wanted Stafford first and struck out, then Fields then when Fields had chosen NY they to settle on Rodgers and his bullshit.

Darnold has an extremely low chance of outperforming his contract and clearly prioritized staying in the Shanny/McVey/KOC tree because that scheme suits him.

Yep, they are way more than a move away. You can commit that kind of money to a player of his age and injury issues when you are nowhere near a contender. It won’t happen, it shouldn’t happen.

I'd pay a second round pick for TJ Watt 8 days a week and twice on Sunday.

This would be the equivalent of getting Kahlil Mack all over again, only this time around the Bears would still have their future draft picks in tact to build off from whatever success they'd have if they were to make the trade in the first place.

Khalil mack was 27 when they traded for him and in year 5.

Watt will be 31 this season and in year 9.

Clearly he's a top 3 DE in the NFL and would instantly be the best player on this roster, but we don't know how long he will be able to play at that level.

You'd have to backload his contract or restructure other big contracts on the team to pay him, so not sure how smart it is to be paying a guy 50m+ at age 35. He's in his prime now and there is no telling if this team will actually be good this year, that all depends on caleb.

Its the same issue I have with trading for hendrickson. Both are elite talents but will they be that when the bears are actually ready to win a superbowl?

The smarter move would be to wait until the deadline or next offseason, there is always top talent being traded at the deadline/offseason. My hope is that micah still comes available, cause thats a guy you can give a 5(or even 7) year deal and feel good about backloading.

Bears have to grown their own pass rushers. It's too expensive to sign them in the off season. Look at Dayo for 18 million a year on future production. Dexter is a good start. Hopefully Stewart can build on it. Trading affordable draft picks for expensive players has got to stop.

Why are bears fans stuck in rebuild forever mentality?

Poles spend the entire cap. The bears aren't going to be in a magical position for 3 years to spend money on multiple players. It's all draft for a few years

They have to grow most everything now. The days of going nuts during free agency are over. (Which is fine. They’re just in a different phase now hopefully)

Watt immediately makes the Bears a much better team. But they could win 9 games, miss the playoffs and still be a much better team.

I doubt they will invest what this deal would cost when they don't even know what they have, and when Poles just got extended so he has no incentive to make splashy moves that won't end up putting them over the top.

Even under Tomlin I think failing to re-sign Watt could actually lose the Steelers their locker room. He's that much of an impact player (when healthy).
