We owed this year. We both worked full time and I moonlight a bit as well. Our income jumped a bit and that combined with less deductions killed us. Last few prior years we were able to get small returns due to the education and childcare expenses. I'm glad we planned for it.

I almost had to pay for the first time ever, but our tax person got a little creative and we basically broke even.

We were expecting to get a decent amount back, but in Illinois....... well, ya know.

We got back about 4300. A good chunk of that is because my education is going to be a mortgage payment after I graduate. I would rather owe a little, and use the money to my advantage throughout the year, rather than the government gaining interest on money that is mine to be disbursed at their leisure (or when I decide to file).

On the flip side--With Marcy out of work, the large sum at once is advantageous so we can adjust our budget accordingly.

seeing as though my wife and i are both accountants......we haven't done ours yet. i'm sure we'll owe like the last 4 or 5 years. even making quarterly estimates doesn't help us. can't wait til next year when the kid will help us out.

this redistribution of wealth is making me feel warm and fuzzy inside. not really.

Owed 6k to the feds and some to Illinois. I have that set aside in a separate account that I have been gaining interest on as opposed to the Government. I would rather owe then give the government an interest free loan. Next year will hopefully be better, as I am now officially a sub chapter S corp, and that will lessen my tax burden, or so I have been lead to believe.

Like Chasman, they won't see dime 1 till the 18th.

I got $630 back. I've only been working my full time job for 6 months so it's not to bad I guess. I then quickly booked another trip to Vegas. You're welcome, economy.

Got 95 back from the great state of North Dakota on Tuesday. Which proceeded to purchase a couple of nice cigars and a few cases of beer last night.

I got around $400 back, not bad. Helps me out a lot to pay a few bills here and there and put some extra cash in my pocket.

Ahh Christmas.... I took care of this in the first week of February... Its the most wonderful time of the year for the lower class...

I ended up getting $1400 back thanks to my few months of work....

Some of that ($700 in fact) went towards the new 42' LCD tv in my new living room (My former roommate, now landlord, bought a new 2 flat and I'm on the second floor. We moved in December, which is why I've hardly been on as of late), and $600 of it is going towards seeing my boyfriend's graduation in San Antonio before we move him up here in June. I can't wait!

Threads like this make me want to ask a question of those who get refunds.

How much did you actually pay for the year in fed and state taxes and how much did

you end up getting back? I would venture to say that most who get refunds end up paying a very small percentage in taxes especially in federal taxes yet many complain how much in income taxes they pay. It is all the more reason for us to have a single flat tax. Everyone pays the same percentage and the more you make the more you pay.

I love hearing how the rich should pay more when many who say that have no idea at the end of the year what their percentage paid in was after refunds.
