A couple things:

Pace tells Trubisky to drive his 97 Camry or whatever up to Halas Hall and instructed him to not change a thing. The drive from Ohio or North Carolina or wherever he’s coming from is not a short one though so what if the car needed gas or oil? This would constitute a change, yet Pace advises Trubisky to not change a thing. Heck you could even argue that turning the car on and putting it into drive would constitute a change. Was Pace giving irresponsible driving and ownership advice here? Was Trubisky supposed have the car towed there? Has the media ever asked Pace about this?

Second I love how Pace threw everyone else in the draft room under the bus for his chit tier pick. Look at their faces and tell me, do any of their expressions scream CONVICTION? Pace knew the camera was there and probably threatened them if they didn’t take the fall for him. I guess that’s what they mean when they say they collaborate.

Pace says Trubisky is Dowell Loggain’s number 1 QB. That alone should have told him to pick literally anyone else. I bet Patrick Mahomes was dead last on this clown’s list.

Where’s the video of Pace and/or the McCaskey’s saying they want a QB who “reminds him of himself” or “looks like him” or “one that he sees himself in him”?

You know who’s missing in this video? Matt Nagy. I wonder where he was? Oh that’s right, he was in the KCFT’s draft room orchestrating a trade to move up to get future Hall of Famer Patrick Mahomes. Unlike Bears brass, Nagy knows a good QB when he sees one and yet you mouth breathing meatballs want to run him out of the building. “CRM, if Nagy knew quarterbacks so well, why did he come do da Bears?” I’m guessing he assumed that Pace would move on from Trubisky once he proved he can’t play the position.

Seriously, look how happy Nagy is there. That’s conviction. That’s collaboration.

Credit to John Fox for being a professional while on the phone with Trubisky. Fox was smart enough to know Watson was better but he still treated Trubisky with honor and dignity. Side note: it feels weird to type the words smart, honesty and dignity with the same word as Fox. John Fox is all of those things but some other things named Fox are not.

Anyway what are your thoughts looking back at this?

I recall this day. I was watching with some friends at the local pub. I see the Bears traded up and go 'it has to be for Watson'. They announce the pick. I go 'are you fucking kidding me'.

Funniest part about the Bears video is how hard all of those meatballs are clapping at the end. It's like they were trying to make their hands bleed. How is Pace still employed?

I'm pretty sure we were ruined before pace came.

Wrong. Bears were in great position that day. They had the number 3 overall pick and two elite quarterbacks on the board. Cleveland was for sure taking Myles Garret so the Bears were going to finally get their guy. That is, until Pace passed on both of them so he could trade up and draft a QB who can’t even throw the ball.

Every time I see this video it just tells me that we have an awful QB scouting team backing up a dumbass GM. This video is embarrassing!

First of all, Trubisky was the highest rated QB according to almost everyone that works on the draft. People were questioning Watson's velocity on the ball for some stupid reason. And Mahomes was like 5-7 every year in a gimmicky college offense.

Secondly, I'd say at least 1/2 of this very message board wanted to wait and build up the OL first before taking a QB.

Hindsight is 20/20. Not excusing Pace. He still F'd up and should not have a job right now but let's not act like everyone but Pace knew how things would turn out.

You keep saying this statement like it is a fact. It's not. It's pure speculation on your part.

Also, to your Rivers comment, he's 5th in career TD passes and 5th in yards. Sign me the fuck up for that.

Also Watson's injury history which I'm sure really hurt him when teams had these guys graded out somewhat closely.

He proved everybody wrong but he had legit concerns at the time.

honestly i had never seen mahomes play in college, i just read the reports. ESPN classic had texas tech playing OK a couple weeks ago showing mahomes in college, to me he looked exactly like he does w/ the chiefs, was really doing nothing wrong and had the rocket launcher

He had to play a TON of hero ball, and it led to terrible footwork, fundamentals, and decision making on a frequent basis. His lowlights from TT are legitimately abysmal. He had all the highs and all the lows. Coming off Cutler, I think the Bears were afraid of getting the same type of guy - a toolsy guy with poor fundamentals who's prone to mistakes. Which honestly might have have been his fate in Chicago. It certainly helps he was paired with one of the best QB-developers in Reid, had a season to learn under a high character and high performing veteran, works behind a good OL with very good edge protection, and inherited a dynamic set of weapons in an offense that was already top-7 in passing offense and overall offense.

I was so psyched that day. We had the #3 pick and Garrett was the consensus #1. The pick had to be QB even though Pace signed Glennon. I figured The Giraffe was going to start the first year or few games and then off we go.

Then, with all 3 QBs on the board, the dumbass trades up one slot. I figured it was Watson. Nobody was going to fight over Mitch and Mahomes wasn’t slated to go until later.

But I could see people fighting over Watson. He had it all. The size was a concern but whatever.

Then they announce Mitch. WTF? I thought maybe I missed something. Was he really that good?

My mind went everywhere. One, we fucked up the pick. Two, did the McCaskeys not want a black guy as QB. That’s a horrible thing to say but look what they did.

I thought maybe we drafted Mitch for somebody else and were gonna trade.

My head spins every time Pace has a first round choice.
