People will blindly continue to believe in the enforcer deterrent myth, have for decades. so it's pointless to go into that, but about Shanahan, I can't tell if that's sarcasm or not. At one point, very early on in his tenure, Shanahan looked like he was going to start curbing behaviors by the types of suspensions he was starting to hand out. Very briefly, and then I'm sure he heard about it from some people that weren't happy with him giving out those suspensions. Today, to me, he's an even bigger joke than Campbell. Because to the hockey community, he lives under this scary guise of "bringing down the hammer" from very early on when he started and the fact he uses videos to explain his judgement (more often than not, lack of judgement) so that it makes it all seem "cutting edge". But the outcomes have been much the same if not exactly the same. Repeat offenders are still only getting 2 or 3 games. Suspensions are being shortened, suspensions are being shortened due to the other player not being hurt enough, suspensions definitely still pend on who's involved, etc, etc. The same fucking problems, right down the list. New boss is the same as the old one. It's just a different image they're putting out.</p>
