Campoli was pretty good tonight. Campbell also played very well to accommodate his partner, made the newest Hawks first game a breeze.
I'm not surprised Frolik notched a few points today, he played pretty well last game and had a few chances. He seems like he could be a streaky player though 14 of his points have come in 6 games (two 3pt games and four 2pt games)... that's almost half of his entire total this year, many of them were streaky patches. Not complaining just seeing what our expectations could be for the rest of this year and probably next year. His dish to Hossa for the empty net was classy, I'm sure the team took notice of that.
Toews was incredible, but the entire STK line dominated. Could be one of the best lines in the entire NHL, if not the best right now.
I somewhat agree Pez but also not entirely. Last year that ON/OFF switch was still there, but it seemed like our depth did a lot of scoring early to help them win some of those early games but as they tailed off our stars really picked it up. This year we just didn't have the depth to keep us in some games early in the year, now that our stars are producing again we are winning games, which if you look at least year the "depth" that left wasn't exactly productive offensively during the Stanley Cup run.
Andrew Ladd - 3G, 3A in 19 games
Dustin Byfuglien - 11G, 5A in 22 games
Kris Versteeg - 6G, 8A in 22 games
Ben Eager - 1G, 2A in 18 games
John Madden - 1G, 1A in 22 games
Adam Burish - 0G, 0A in 15 games
NOTE: Colin Fraser played 3 games with 0G and 0A, so I'll take him out of it.
Six guys have combined for 41 points, which is roughly 7 points per player in an average of 19 games. I don't think that's too much to expect from Bryan Bickell, Ryan Johnson, Jake Dowell, Michael Frolik, Fernando Pisani, and Viktor Stalberg. Everyone knows Bickell can produce, albeit inconsistently, same with Frolik and even Stalberg and Pisani has shown it in spades this year.
Not to mention, we replaced Sopel, Boynton, and/or Hendry with Leddy and Campoli.
Brent Sopel - 1G, 5A in 22 games
Jordan Hendry - 0G, 0A in 15 games
Nick Boynton - 0G, 0A in 3 games
We gained mobility from the back end and Leddy as well as Campoli give us better options on special teams since both can play on both units, where as only Sopel played the PK. I'm sure you can also expect them to produce more offensively and allow better puck possession.
If the core of this team can take their game another notch like they did last year in the Cup run, we could be in pretty good contention. Its all up to them, as much as RK has said it lately I am leaning towards agreement.
