LMAO...to the TCD jokes
I bring up that people were so excited that Smith was gdoing squats and working out like an animal to make the team...
And Stalberg has looked good in the preseason so far. Maybe he worked harder this off season as well and will try to play/define his role better this season.
Toews said he was a player he can see having a breakout year.
Why does this guy get bashed so much? He played 10min a game...on a new team last year...playing on all different line. Of course he's going to try to do a lot to fit in. His game wasn't a run around/bang and crash - but he did a good job of that in the playoffs last year.
So why not see what he does on the 3rd/4th line this year? If he can get 15g/15a in 10-12min a game, I don't see that as a reason to not like the guy's game.
Well I honestly don't pay attention much to what they do in the offseason as I expect all of them to bust their ass just as hard as the next. Any comments that I've made about Smith were based on my impression of him in the playoffs. You keep going back to the 10 minutes per game like it's not big deal. He only played 10 minutes per game and did ok, what do you expect... well guess what, HE COULD ONLY GET 10 MINUTES A GAME. That's how bad he was. He was as high as 17 at times and as low as 4. He was inconsistent. And Q has always made players work for their minutes and he couldn't get them. Everyone's favorite Pisani, and even Jake Dowell averaged more than him and I would strongly argue they don't have near the ability as Stalberg. He was giving opportunities with the top line, and didn't make anything of them, and then he was given opportunities on the bottom lines and played like he was still auditioning on the top line. He's not a 3/4th line guy, period. His game doesn't translate to it. And he's not solid enough yet to be on the 1st or 2nd line.
He had 5 goals and 5 assists after new years, which he was basically your 10 minute man role right there. That's 10/10 at 84 games. Not much to like there those are Jake Dowell numbers, and people don't seem too high on him.
