There are a lot of teams that have gone to that - I belive NJ and DET were the first...since tying guys up front/boarders with interference at times. A lot of NHL goalies as well say they'd rather fight through one screen, but when a Dman is there "tying a guy up", can cause 2 screens - as well as keeping a Dman from moving/getting to the puck if it's loose

How is the defenseman being in front of the forward....not 2 screens as well? It's no different, and actually worse if you ask me.. Most goalies will tell you that you better block the shot, or get the **** out of the way. If you're trying to block the shot, you're in the goalie's way. If you're a defenseman trying to block the shot, you're leaving the opposing forward behind you, who can setup right in the goalie's kitchen unmolested, as we saw with Carter planting his ass right in Crawford's face last night.

It's a horrible strategy because, as we've seen, it allows opposing forwards free reign to screen the goalie and pounce on any rebounds. That strategy has never been effective for the Hawks. Their PK and defensive zone play is most effective when they are being aggressive at the points, blocking shots with their forwards, and tying guys up in front of the net. The best defensive teams aren't using their defense to block shots. They are using the forwards to pressure the points and their defense is clearing out the front of the net and tying guys up.

Their strategy is not working and LA has figured it out 100%. Hawks aren't winning this series unless they adjust and start taking away those uncontested shots from the point and clearing guys out in front.
