He has a real job now at least.
Also, not offended. The USAF was honestly one of the easiest jobs I've ever had. The military definitely comes with a lot of bullshit you have to put up with, but it wasn't "hard". That really varies based on the branch and your job though.

When I was in the Army, some soldiers used to call it the Chair Force.

I've heard it and it doesn't bother me. One of my good friends is former Army. We've talked a lot about the differences. We had it pretty good (food, living conditions, etc) comparatively.

You served, you served your country - God bless. You have earned the right to criticize your government. Not saying that citizens don't have the right...just that you definitely earned yours.

Thanks. I think everyone has a right to criticize, and I'd say even patriotic to do so. Patriotism has been twisted into nationalism by many, but we SHOULD be critical and hold our government accountable. Pretending like things are perfect is not patriotism. I'd just say that being in the military gives you a bit of perspective that others may not have, but no more of a right than anyone else.

What did you do in the Navy? I've chatted with most of the other vets here about what they did, not trying to bait you or anything. Honestly just curious.

Nice. I did 4 and out too, and got out as a Senior Airman (also E-4). Electronic warfare.

Nice, brother.

I'll have to look up the rating...electronic warfare...I don't know if you guys use "MOS."

The US Navy barrows so heavily from the Royal Navy.

In the Air Force it's AFSC (Air Force Specialty Code) vs MOS. Mine was 2A1X7. The X changes based on career progression based on rank, testing, etc from 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9. 2A117 you're basically a trainee, 2A137 after tech school, etc. Mine was 2A157 when I got out. I also had TS/SCI clearance. It says a lot about our government if they gave my dumb ass top secret clearance. Although anything I knew was extremely boring and mundane. Stuff almost no one would care about.

Wow that seems complicated. In the US Navy...

E1 - E3 (recruits - seaman)
E4 - E6 (Petty Officers) Army Sargent
E7 - E9 (Chiefs)

You know what's cool?

Jimmy Stewart was a brigadier general in the Air Force.

Yeah, rank wise it's very similar.

E1-E4 (basic airman through senior airman)
E5-E6 (junior NCOs - Staff Sgt, Tech Sgt)
E7-E9 (senior NCOs - Master Sgt, Senior Master Sgt, Chief Master Sgt)

The AFSC skill ranks are a combination of actual rank, and testing around your actual job proficiency.

That's really interesting. Getting up to one star is nothing to sneeze at. I'd say though in the USAF rank on the officer side gets very political after you hit a certain threshold. Like O-6 (Colonel).
