The beer hardly runs out.
Meaning: there is nothing wrong with finishing your work, and then go out. Too many of my students don't realize that until they are back home.
Also: there I had a lot of buddies who refused to work at dining services, or other jobs offered around campus because it was 'demeaning.' Bullshit. College costs money, and some parents have problems affording it. If you need to wash lunch trays in the dining center. Do it.
At one point in my college career, I was working three part time jobs to help pay for school all the while carrying a 3.1 gpa. If it's worth doing, it's worth doing well.

1. The habits you create now will be harder to break as you get older.
2. Thomas Edison failed 1,000 times at creating the light bulb. 1,000 times. So why quit when you don't know the answer?

Well you have a couple of options:
1. Did you ever think of talking to the person? Maybe lay out to this person what makes you feel that he/she is a pretentious bastard. Honesty is important, and while most will find this to be the harder option anybody who is mature enough to handle any disagreements with you will respond. It might be negative at first, but I think you will find that this is a lot better than some passive-aggressive way of handling things.
2. You can ignore the person. Completely cut them off.
