A couple thoughts:

1) Bettman getting booed - it's expected in any sport - you boo the commissioner. Although the camera showed Bettman's face and I thought he looked hurt by it. No one wants to be booed.

2) Surprised McD got such a loud ovation. Given the hatred discussed on this board about him I was expecting him to get booed louder than Bettman.

3) Did anyone notice the new banner was about 3 inches too longer - compare the photos of it next to the other 3 - it's looks a little longer.

4) I could have lived without hearing every name in organization being called out to stand on the carpet. They called out the massage therapist - gimme a break. What's next - the janitorial crew?

5) Wished there were some more members for the '61 team there but guessing most are dead or too frail at this point.

6) Photo the team took in front of the banner will make a great screensaver. My prediction is this will be everyone's x-mas gift this year from the Hawks.

Not all commissioners are unpopular with the fans (Fay Vincent, for example), but commissioners who try to get too heavy handed with their control are sure to get booed when away from those on the payroll.

I didn't listen to most of the ceremony, but if Bettman was on the ice it wasn't because he had to be -- tradition or not.

I won't even listen to NHL Live any more because you never know when Bettman is going to be on or when the hosts are carrying his water. Bettman used to have his own show on NHL.com. He should stay on it.

No it was not up as flush as the others.

Edit- and that is a good shot to show it was not.
Still looks like if it were flush it would be a few inches longer.

With or Without You by U2....

The theme they are playing while skating and hanging the banner I have no idea. Sounds like a movie trailer.

I'm sure everyone already knows but Adam and his staff have put up some very good Vids.

Opening Montage, passing of the torch/banner, old to new, and JT and the Cup!

just WOW! Tears of happiness. Sap or not one of the truly monumental moments in my life.

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And Moron you and I don't often agree but I most certainly hope you enjoyed most of last nights Ceremony. It's been far too long in coming and was well done for the most part, minus the front office BS.
It was. The soundtrack to "The Pacific". And that was The Vitamin String Quartet's (who are awesome!) cover of "With or Without You".

They forgot how big they made the others.

Also, the Hawks don't play well in banner ceremonies or special nights as it is. Let's take a look at the past several.

1) Hull / Mikita night - March 2008 - Lost to San Jose (MAJOR let down when tying goal waved off).

2) Esposito night - we won - nice game by Huet

3) Pierre Pilot night - lost in OT or shootout

4) Stanley Cup - lost to Detroit

So we're 1-2-1 in special nights over the past 3 seasons. Ouch!

I had a Great evening last night that whole ceremony was awesome, seeing Toews skate out with the cup and the handoff of the Banner from the old timers to the 2010 Stanley Cup Champs was priceless. I was so proud to be a Chicago Blackhawks fan last night. The new Banners are Beautiful ill never get tired of looking up from my Seats and seeing them and remembering 10-9-10.

Khabby was in net during Espo night. He made this save

I really enjoyed the ceremony on TV (wish I could have been there stupid unemployment). My only complaint is that I could do without the shots of the pitch black crowd...show me the ice, scoreboard, players, etc....

No problem---a friend was DVR-ing the HBO series earlier this year and I watched parts. The music was memorable so I recognized it, lol.

I was curious what you were talking about. You can find it on youtube. Not bad.

I believe I found that tune with The Pacific... Its by Hans Zimmer, simply called "Honor". But I could have sworn it was longer... heh.

Sounds eerily familiar, though.

It is "Honor" for sure, CL.

Ceremony was pretty much perfect... kids looked choked up as they were probably thinking back on all their hard work & their old teammates in other cities now. What an accomplishment; I'm very excited to see the banner in person on Wednesday.

FYI, there's at least a couple of versions of it from the soundtrack---one is specifically for strings.

I am still going through my pics of that night. Was awesome a great gesture to have the '61 team hand off the banner to the kids.

Well done Hawks!

They keep looping the songs. Just like the song that Toews comes out to is actually a theme by Steve Jablonsky used in the Transformers sequel. They just kept looping the same bar over and over until they got to the "Honor" song.
