Dane Brugler recently came out with his nearly 300 page draft guide for the 2021 season.

2021 NFL Draft Guide: 636 prospects ranked, 415 scouting reports from Dane Brugler — 'The Beast' is here

Using said guide, let’s take a look at some second round options at key positions:

Brugler has no second round grades on any of the QB’s. So we’ll just take a look at the first three after the top 5...

Seems a lot of top sources have Mills as best of the rest. With the way QBs run up boards, Bears may not have the option to select him at 52 if that's their target. I understand why he has Lance ahead of Fields but don't really agree.

Read the tackle descriptions and understand why you don't project LTs much beyond the end of round one, even in deep drafts. It happens but that's luck.

Can someone that gets the athletic show his mock for the Bears 1st 3 picks.

Mills looked really good in first half of the ND game. Second half, not so much. I like him in the third.

Mills was extremely inconsistent. But he definitely flashed a number of high caliber NFL throws. The problem is they were mixed in with a bunch of truly unacceptable throws, often times without duress.

This is some really good stuff from Brugler, one of the few people/websites that obviously watch the players and have a good understanding of football (thedraftnetwork.com is a great site too).

I agree with most of his analysis for players I've watched enough. He's exactly right on with Amari Rodgers (even compared him to the same guy I did, Deebo Samuel), I agree with him on Eichenberg, Darrishaw, Bateman, Elijah Moore, really most of his assessments on guys who I've watched.

Agree with you there, but his inexperience actually benefits him here-he can improve. A guy like Mond who has played in a ton of games and is still as inconsistent as he is? You kind of know what you’re getting with him, which isn’t much to build on IMO.

To me Mond is a much safer pick but I'm not sure that's what you're looking for in round 2-3. I think Mond is likely to be a very good backup who can manage a game, keep a decent team in the game, safe with the ball to a fault, like Tyrod Taylor.

Mills is more boom bust but with his really inconsistent mechanics, footwork, really everything, and lack of experience, I thin the chances he is ever even serviceable are very low. But he does have higher potential than Mond.

All a crapshoot man. Obviously I’d love for them to have a shot at Fields, I just think he’s gone at 3.

Mills is one reason to trade the #20 and move down. Get a later 1st rounder or early second, and collect more picks to solidify WR/T/CB

Don't mean to hijack your thread. Just interesting to view players strengths and weakness in hindsight and acknowledge that his breakdowns are good, but how good any of these guys ends up may depend more on where they go, who they are coached up by and who they play with, imo.

Kizer as 2nd concerns me a lot more that the Mitch 1st thing does. Lots of people had Mitch going 1st and in the top 10.
That said, these all vary abd guys are allowed their play biases.

Give me Davis Mills in 2nd round and I'm ok with that for now.

Yep, great breakdown about their college tape and how they project...but that's all it is, a projection.

I was on board for Watson, then Kizer, Trubisky and ultimately Mahomes. My issue with Mahomes was all the talk about him being a gunslinger, and after Cutler I wanted more of a sure thing. Boy was I wrong, but not as wrong as Pace..lol

It's gonna be so hard for the Bears to get any QB in any round without trading up with every other team knowing the Bears are gonna draft one somewhere in this draft. If somehow one of the top 5 slides and is sitting there at #18-#19 then any team that wants a QB will know they need to trade up above the Bears to get him and that goes for Mills if he's still there at #50 and Mond if he's there at #80 and so on and so on for every round until the Bears actually get one, if they can get one that is.

R.Pace knows he's gonna have to trade up to get any QB he wants.

you really might have to be the dumbest motherfucker I have ever encountered

Nah, man. I think he's onto something. This draft will be known as Operation Bear Cock Block. It's fucked up.

Seems like a deep draft for several key holes on the Bears roster outside of CB. So IMO if Pace can’t trade up to get Fields (highly unlikely) then he should try and trade back to get as many picks as he can where he does his best work.

If he could get out of this draft with something like two 2’s, two 3’s and a fourth and turn that into a foundation for a new QB next year that would be a safe feasible way to go.

Something like:
Marshall (replace Arob)
Nixon (replace Hicks)
Little (replace Leno)
Mond (development QB)
Joseph (I think he slips pretty far)
Try and find a development RT in the 5th
