Who had the more annoying voice? Robert Plant or Janice Joplin?

Nobody out-squealed Geddy Lee (in his early years) but between those two... Janice Joplin.

Her voice grates on my ears... like hosing down a truckload of feral cats.

5 good tunes...maybe 2 really great, 2 really good and the rest blurs together into ok/eh... if you drink/drug/don't care.

Overrated by a mile, and hanging on way too long. Keith Richards has been dead for three decades now but doesn't now well enough to lay down.

Mick Jagger is more a 'creature character' than a singer.

Make of that what you will.
Yeah, but does it really matter that they are still hanging on? Does that depreciate what they accomplished when they were younger?

Or do you prefer your musicians to die young? LOL

And don't even get me started on the 15 minutes of Jimmy Page "brilliance" that he's managed to milk for half a century now...nonsense.

Even 12 years olds are playing his 'best stuff, and better than he ever did. Redundant redundancy.
Not sure you even have a point here... it's much easier to replicate than create...

Of course I have no point...what do you think this is; "my opinoin is better than yours?"

All I know is what I've listened to. If a Led Zep tunes comes on the radio, there's 99 chances out of slightly more than that I'll be turning the dial away.

Post a link of a kid playing 'Stairway to Heaven' on the Youtubes, and I might click on it; and I'll probably be impressed.

In other news; LZ still sucks, mostly.

I still love Zeppelin(a lot more than Beatles), but there are a good number of other examples of Zep "replicating", some more blatantly obvious than others. Many of which were bands that opened for the Yardbirds(Page's prior band). I just wanted to point out the irony of originality. :)

And yes. The child prodigy. 6 year olds performing Mozart, Beethoven, Bach, Gershwin. I guess all of those guys suck. Is Dream Theater really that skilled, when middle-school kids are covering their songs?

The Rolling Stones are an interesting study. Certainly more than 2-5 great songs. Some critics have called Gimme Shelter one of the greatest songs of all time and the album Exile on Main Street one of the top ten.

From a musical capability standpoint they are first rate. You be hard pressed to find greater drummer and bass player than Charlie Watts and Bill Wyman. Keith Richards is one of the best rhythm guitarists ever. During the period he was with the band, Mick Taylor was one of the greatest guitarists in the world both live and creatively in the studio. People have called this live recording possibly the best live performance ever. The entire band is so tight and Taylor exhibits genius

The Stones always had great back-up players like Bobby Keys and Nicky Hopkins. Mick Jagger is a great blues singer with terrific timing and feel. Always gave homage to the blues greats. But in the late 90s he developed a Sinatra style talking/singing thing. But no one cared because he was playing monster stadiums and it was about the experience not the music for their fans.

Now the bad news:
-They wrote far too many drug themed and referenced songs. Their performances can be incredibly sloppy. I last saw them live in 1975 at the old Chicago Stadium and they were totally drunk and out of tune. Their warm up band was the legendary jazz Crusaders and blew them away. Talk about great musicians, check out the Crusaders sometimes. I said I never would go see them again.

-Ron Woods was a favorite when he played lead with the Faces but I haven't liked his work with the Stones. I dont think he is in the same league as Mick Taylor. Richards is a great player but can be very sloppy live and he doesn't care if he is.

Here is clip of the great Mick Taylor on You can't always get what you want. It's generally a song i would be fine not hearing ever again. But when I heard this live version of this song recently it gave new meaning

Wow, Stapler, I'm shocked. I respect your atheistic ideas and most of your political ideas. Obviously, though, your musical ideas are absolute trash.

I'm not going to get into a Zeppelin debate. Their entire album speaks for itself. The best complete band of all time and I have the tattoo to prove it, biatch :p

The 8th Wonder of the World should be how Keith Richards managed to play for so long without falling off the stage and killing himself.

The Beatles? They were great, but they were no GG Allin or GWAR.

With respect to your LZ skinscar, I don't get it.

Most of the time, Plant sounds like a guy getting "worked over wtih a blow torch and a pair of pliers." Every song is 10 minutes long (or seems like it) and the first three minutes is always them 'tuning their instraments' or rambling off on a tangent to 'fill time'.

I don't like that; it hurts my ears. :shot:

But Stairway is on my top 10 favorite song list, top 5 depending on my mood, for what that's worth. ;-p
