Oh Man... and your MIL with that look of "What?"

I've had a big yen for some Cafe Du Monde Chickory Coffee lately. I was hoping Emeril's Big Easy Bold coffee (Keurig) would suffice, but it pales in comparison.

It is easy to crack jokes around her and laugh at the fact she doesn't get them.

The other day we went to their house to drop off the dog, and a joke was made about her being popular with the fellas. She didn't get it, until I explained to her that her love of those chickens she decorates with could be misconstrued as her loving the ****.

I just ordered another french press. My old one broke a couple years ago, that's how I ended up getting my aeropress.

I like my aeropress but I miss some things from french press.

1. Coffee oils!!! The paper filter in the aeropress lets little if any of the oils through.

2. I want to make MORE COFFEE! I use 3 scoops in my aeropress to make a 16oz cup (bloom wont let me do any more). That only fills my cup once and it is even perhaps on the watery side (ashamed to admit it).

3. I don't mind a bit of sediment in the bottom.

4. Boss never did follow through on his promise of coffee maker for us at work. Good! It would almost be stupid of me to roast my awesome Sumatran & Kenyan beans to waste in a stupid drip machine that doesn't even get hot enough to extract awesome coffee goodness.

The whole bean Cafe Duran is awesome. My in-laws sent so much (20#), I worry it will not keep well.

I'm anxiously awaiting my press.

I also ordered a kyocera manual burr grinder.

I have an old electric Betty crocker grinder now. I'm pretty sure it is just a blade grinder.

I don't like noisy stuff when I'm just waking up so the manual will be good in that regard as well as exercise.

I started drinking the mocha iced coffee from 711 about a year back. I'll have one probably 4 or 5 days a week.

I've tried drinking regular coffee but I hate when it's hot and leaves that dry feeling in your mouth afterwards. About 10am, I'll start drinking Pepsi for my dose of caffeine.

Why do you miss coffee?

Did you convert to Mormonism or something?

Wish I could commit myself to a faith..it would give me much better focus in my life. I would probably pick mormonism.

Meh 7 years ago I became really ill. Had to cut caffeine out of my diet as much as possible. For someone who drank a good pot a day it was tough. It wasn't so much the caffeine which was hard to go without..I just loved the taste and texture of coffee so much...**** I loved the taste.

I am not 100% caffeine free though. I will get a mocha here and there and decaf a coffee every once in a while (although decaf is not good for people I keep hearing).

I miss my pot a day though and I really miss coffee and baileys which were my best friends durring desk night shifts years back.

My press and grinder arrived today.

I like the grinder. Quiet, turns with little effort, pretty even grind.

With my aeropress I would use 3 scoops to make a pint of coffee.

Following Sweet Maria's french press tip sheet, I shot for 25.8 grams. I got 26.2 with 2 aeropress scoops.

The bodum scoop was ~7 grams, per scoop.

I liked my cup from french press MUCH more than aeropress. Any extra time I spend is offset by the quality results I get using 33% less coffee.

BTW, I got kyorcera ceramic burr mill. It seems to be the same as the Hario brand.

In fact the jar says "hario" on it

Press is the same $20 bodum Brazil 1 litre model I used to have.

I really like my grinder. Did side by side comparison with my new hand grinder & old electric betty crocker grinder.

The old one definitely burns beans black as it grinds.

Yuck! I don't want charcoal.

I used to grind until my grinder stopped working, it was extremely loud. I have that same press. I use it from time to time to break up the sometimes seemingly routine of drip coffee and on camping trips. Since my grinder died I go to Starbucks and have them do it.

You now have me thinking about getting back to grinding again.

After breaking 2 french press glass carafes I finally splurged and got a stainless steel french press. Best $100 I ever spent...well not really if you count that smokin hot....

I got a keurig. I know a lot of people say that they are overrated but I got a good deal and love it. we use it almost as much to make instant hot water for teas and broth and such

My mom bought Marcy one of those for Jesus' birthday.

Now I'm drinking coffee.

Neat machine.

When we bought it, and registered it on their site, they gave you two free boxes if you bought two... it's a hell of a deal. We got a flavored coffee, chai tea, hot chocolate and a standard donut shot coffee. Have not been disappointed at all. A lot of times I"ll turn it on just to spit out a cup of hot water to put my own tea bag in it... (ohhh god... this isn't going to be good)

Keurig's are nice for the convenience factor, but I feel like it's a waste of resources to make one cup of coffee. Not to mention you probably end up paying about 4-5 times what you normally would. Unless you're using the reusable k-cup and filling it with your own coffee.

Also, I saw it mentioned earlier in this thread, I too love Intelligentsia Coffee. I found another brand called Counter Culture coffee. They have an Ethiopian coffee that is amazing.

We plan on using the reusuable when the K-cups run out but it was too good of a deal to pass up. I don't understand the waste of resources comment? To me, it's better than making a pot each time which usually you only drink half of, or dump to much in... ? Maybe I'm not understanding what you mean?

You have to use a plastic cup every time you make a cup of coffee. That's a lot of packaging going into the garbage.

Yeah, I guess... vs. a paper filter... but again. We use the exact amount of coffee and water each time as well. No waste.

I actually use a reusable filter in my coffee maker too and have it set to a pretty accurate science to where I rarely have to dump any coffee. If I was a cup a day drinker I would consider a Keurig, but I usually drink 4 to 5 cups (2 mugs) of coffee a day.
